I live in the area and I'm surprised how often my neighbors tell me they have never been to this wonderful, small gem of a museum. I have been several times, most recently with a class of special needs junior and senior high school students last spring. My students loved this, the contemporary art-- which changes each year-- the paleolithic and historical artifacts and the downstairs children exhibits, which don't change much. It is more expensive than the free New York State Museum, but that museum is supported by the State of New York, this museum rarely, or never is. I have also gone here with my own family. If you can tie your travel to one of the festivals that happen here over the summer, you will be very glad you did. If you're coming to Schoharie County, come here, perhaps go to a cave, go to Sharon Springs, Middleburgh, Schoharie, and perhaps Cobleskill.

The Iroquois museum is a great place to learn about local Indian history. A great respect for the culture of Native Americans. A perfect Autumn day.

I had the great experience of visiting the Iroquois museum. The Iroquois and many tribes thatare part of it tell a different story about the beginning of man kind. I found their traditions uniqueand send a message of survival that has led us to where we are today.Children and adults will find the exhibits truly an experience in history.

Lovely small museum celebrating and honoring the Iroquois culture. This was my second visit to the museum. Exhibits are informative, art work enjoyable. Gift shop generally ok. Small space used very well. Stop here if you are in the Cobleskill area.

A great learning experience on the history and traditions of the Iroquois nation. Hands on learning for the children.

Just a couple of mins from Howe Caverns, this is worth a stop. If you have kids, do the old/new matching game on the lower level to generate some thinking about what the artifacts were used for. Then the stuff upstairs might be of more interest to them.

We traveled an hour to visit this museum. The price was reasonable and there was plenty to see and do. Lots of fun things for children to do too. Many brief but informative postings and a super turtle pool downstairs. If you don't know the significance, you will learn the story there. Nice gift shop and displays. We enjoyed our visit.

Nice place to visit and see Iroquois artifacts, handicrafts, books, etc. Lovely countryside setting.

It was just a lot of historical items in display cases. There was nothing interactive or engaging for the $8 we paid. They did have a "pond" with 8 turtles in it. My local museum is much more informative and entertaining.

For anyone who wants to learn about the native peoples in upstate New York, this is definitely the place to visit. The Iroquois Nation was so influential in this area of the US before the European invasion and even into the early 19th century. I like that the exhibits show the past and also the current culture of the tribes who originated in this area. Other Indian exhibits that I have visited focus on only the past and dismiss the culture of current-day Indians. Great hands-on children's area and a wonderful area around the museum with walking trails. The gift shop has some high-quality artwork created by Iroquois artists in addition to stuff that will appeal to children. They hold an annual Iroquois Indian Festival (dancing, story-telling, vendors) over Labor Day weekend. Low-key, but meaningful.

If you live nearby it is well worth taking a Membership to help support the Museum. As another person stated - it is most worthwhile when they have special events and social dance during the summer months, otherwise the admission price for a family can be pricey.

I started bringing my grandchildren here - to learn about the Iroquois nation - and learn to appreciate their stories.

Expensive for what you get. Wait for a festival to get more bang for the buck. Doesn't seem to change too much. (have been back more than once). In laws donated arrow heads found on their farm. Can't recommend that.
