I drive up to Keene Valley several times a year and my first stop is the Birch Store. Love, love this store!My father grew up in Keene Valley but settled in central NY. When we came back to visit our relatives my sister and I would take forever deciding how to spend our saved up allowances. That was in the 1950's with the original owner. Not sure when Marion took over the store but she was able to keep the charm of the original building while tastefully editing the assortment.Great gifts-jewelry, kitchen and homegoods, beautiful infants and kids clothes and children's books, decorative pillows, a good selection for men, and even a corner devoted to the family dog. Nice selection of women's clothing that you don't find in other stores. Today I went home with a handbag, earrings, some dish towels and a box of Christmas cards. I'll be back before Thanksgiving to shop for everyone else!One other tip: the Noonmark Diner (that doesn't look like a diner) is next door. Homemade pie by the piece or whole to take with you- many flavors! Worth the calories..

This little shop is a must do if you are in the Lake Placid / Keene/ Keene Valley area. I love my time there and always walk away with something special. Love this shop!

We stopped here as I do every time I pass through Keene. This store has everything and is so amazing. The clothing selection is perfect(the buyer has great taste and items are high quality and current. The soaps are incredible. I can not pass them up. The staff is friendly and this place is just great. Stop at the mountain store up the street and grab lunch in town. I cannot say enough about this little treasure of a store. There is a price point for everyone so look around:)

What a great store! We are staying in Lake Placid and this store is the best of any we've seen by far. What a wonderful selection of homeware, pillows, clothes and so much more. Loved this store.

The Birch Store is the best little store in the world. We always stop on our way to or from Lake Placid and I always find something perfect that makes me very, very happy. I even found a dress (on sale!) that my very (ahem) "particular" mother-in-law likes. Finding something she likes is a small miracle. I don't know how the Birch Store does it (buyers who are geniuses with great taste? Some kind of magic spell?) It's a mystery, a wonderful, wonderful mystery.And the Birch Store is adorable! It's in a cute little old building that was beautifully refurbished but still has old wooden floorboards and what looks like the original front door.Everyone who works there is extraordinarily nice. All the other customers I've encountered have been extraordinarily nice. I suspect Feng shui has something to do with it, either that or a secret government mind-control experiment.A confession: I have a picture of the Birch Store on my phone and when I'm sad I look at it and immediately feel better. It's much better than SSRIs and there are no side effects.If I could change anything about the Birch Store, I would give it a better website and I would have them stock more clothing for tall, broad-shouldered, ladies with generous chests like myself.Did I mention that I love the Birch Store?

The Birch Store is one of a kind. The owner, Marion, has an incredible eye for beautiful funky, sometimes offbeat items. The store is feels like it has been designed by a highly crafted set designer. Each room in the old farm house is filled with charm and character. Everything has a mountain /cabin feel but none of it is over the top or kitsch. Some items seem overpriced, but in general, there is always something for everyone at The Birch Store. Watch out Martha Stewart!

Very cute store, lots of merchandise. I was hoping for a few more unique items for the area, something to get as a memento of the trip, but most of the selection was items for the house or kitchen. Would be a great place to get items to decorate your house if you lived in the area. Nice find while driving through Keene Valley, wish there was more like it in the area! Their website doesn't do the place justice though, so make sure you still stop by.

This store is a shopper's dream. A well-curated shop of clothing, housewares, jewelry, body-care, and camp items. There were sections for men, women, children and even pets! I live in New York City and visit this shop every summer when I am in town. Last time I was there I bought a fab canvas tote, an amazing scented candle, my current fave summer shoes, a shea buter aftershave/moisturizer for my husband and the cutest booties a s a baby present for a friend. HIGHLY recommend a stop in!
