To come here is to come to The End. As others have said, don't let the weather deter you, because this lighthouse holds an attraction to its visitors, even in foggy conditions. Granted, you won't be able to see the horizon, but watching the fog rolling through is a treat in itself. Come here with your family, with your friends, or just alone. I've been here so many times and it never gets old. There's two parking lots around the corner - the higher one, to the left, allows cars, while the one straight ahead allows for buses and trailers which is bigger. There's bathroom facilities in the bigger lot, and they're adequately maintained. Across the street from the fee booth, which is only charged during the on-season (unless you have an Empire Passport), is where the museum is, and also a place to get some food and beverages. The lighthouse itself is a beautiful fixture on the coastline, with very rocky surroundings. If you're going to jump from rock to rock, I would suggest anyone to wear proper footwear. I've seen too many people here wear improper footwear and struggle, or have to turn back because their feet are getting cut up from rocks. Every path that you take is an adventure, so make sure you have your orientation or you might get lost. However, as long as you get to the road you're usually in the clear. With only an hour walk, you can get to multiple viewpoints which are uniquely beautiful. Camp Hero State Park lies adjacent to this park.Yes, it is a long drive coming from the west, but you can certainly make it a day trip if you leave early. If you stay overnight, you won't be disappointed either. Not living too far from it myself, coming out here to see the sunrise is always a beautiful sight. It's a whole other world out here, and makes you appreciate the immense diversity of Long Island.

This state park is at the tip of Long Island. What sets it apart from most others is the lighthouse on its property. You can take a tour of the lighthouse and climb up to the top (although, when I visited the park in winter, the lighthouse was closed). There is also a lighthouse gift shop. The park has a restaurant (open when I went), bathroom facilities, and a playground. The shoreline is rocky and the area is pristine. I went here for birding in winter, and it is a great spot to see certain arctic birds. There are also seal walks in the winter. There is no parking fee in the winter, but there is a parking fee in the summer.

The seal haul out trail is a great hike that begins at a trailhead on Montauk hwy, about 1 mile west of the lighthouse. The trailhead is on the north side of the hwy. We parked a little down Camp Hero Rd., which was 100 yards or so from the trailhead. The trail itself is about a mile long and relatively flat. When you make it out to the beach there is a little shelter on the bluff to stand and watch the ... Seals! When we visited on 12/20, there was about 20 seals relaxing on rocks and swimming around. This was our second visit in the winter and we saw seals both times. From what I understand, this area is a reliable spot to observe seals from December to March. Bring binoculars, because you'll have to watch the seals from a distance. You are not allowed on the beach to approach the seals. This is a great way to spend some time!! If you live within a couple of hours from Montauk, I strongly recommend a quiet overnight in the winter, when it cis alm and quiet on the East End.

The park is a good spot to visit if you are into maritime history, and it's a cool trek up 137 steps to the top of the lighthouse (do NOT wear heels- they won't let you up if you are). The view from the top is spectacular. Be prepared however to spend $$ on parking (if you don't, there is nowhere to park). Then $$ for the entrance fee to the museum and the lighthouse. I know NY State has to make money somehow but this is like double-dipping.

This has been a favorite family destination for many years. The kids loved running around the grounds and climbing to the top of the lighthouse. It is as picturesque a place as can be; surrounded by the ocean all arond you. It is peaceful walking the dunes. This time of year, the Bluefish and Striped Bass are running. The shoreline is covered with fishermen three deep casting into the surf. I find that a little crazy and dangerous but saw no fishermen getting hooked, but people were getting fish. Columbus Day weekend has Montauk Day where there is a quaint festival with a very well attended Chowder Cookoff. Very nice getaway with plenty to explore for a couple days.

Scenery was breathtaking --straight out of a magazine--from sightings of seals to fishermen who had been surf casting bringing up their large catches. Our photos are amazing!

My husband and I hired bikes and had a great day cycling around Montauk. We found it fun and easy to cycle around Montauk park. I thought the warning signs as you enter about ticks and poison ivy were a good idea, as we are from the UK and not known what to look for. It has lots of natural beauty from the coast line to wildlife, we saw hares and dears. You see the light house way off and it looks great. It cost $8 to go up whether you are going to go up or not. I think they need a better a system and t h e women on the counter, whoa! I never seen such rudeness. It wasn't to me it was to a family in front. It did put me off.

This was a great area. Being seaside was a peaceful experience. Playing on the rocks and beaches and walking through the landscape were fun.

Montauk Point is a beautiful place to visit. Pack a lunch and eat it along the the shoreline amongst some of the largest boulders of rock. Beautiful views from the lighthouse a must see.

You've come this far...Stop at the overlook-amazing sights. The lighthouse is beautiful and has a rich history worth learning.

This is a great place to come in both sunny and stormy weather. On a clear sunny day, you have great ocean views and a vista dominated by the Montauk Lighthouse. During stormy weather, it is fun to look out over the rough seas churning around the point of the island. The one bummer was the $8 parking charge and if you want to see the lighthouse / museum, another $9 per person. I recommend going after 4:00 when the parking is free and just strolling around. The views are still great, without having to pay to get into the lighthouse. But the best views will be from the top of the lighthouse, so for some this is worth the extra fee.

It was so beautiful there. The lighthouse area is kept so nice. The flowers and trees are so colorful. We love to walk around the whole area.

In early June - which was evidently still pre-season, judging by the great availability of parking spots - we visited this easternmost point of Long Island. We paid $8 to park; keep your stub because you can get into other state parks same-day with your stub. Food was available at an indoor snack-bar. We paid $9 each to visit the lighthouse grounds - you can't get close enough to see much without paying the fee - and elected to walk the narrow, curving staircase to the top of the lighthouse. It was good exercise, but accumulated dirt from sea-spray limits the view. The grounds are interesting but the $9 fee is not justified, regardless of whether it's administered by the park service or not. There are big signs saying NO SURFING, and out there in the surf there are at least 40 young scofflaws enjoying the good waves. We're not surfers, but obviously the waves are decent here. But the beach is very stony and few people walk it; it's full of large smooth river-stones that speak to Long Island's origin as a pile of glacial debris. The day was sunny and warm, but the cool foggy days are supposed to be good for mood photography. If we come back, we'll do so in winter.
