White post farms is a nice place to visit but be prepared to bring a lot of cash. Everything is expensive and geared to little children who love to ask for everything. So word to the wise...

Hidden behind a really nice farm stand that features fresh baked pies and breads, local produce, a great sandwich counter, sushi and even a coffee/smoothie bar is the only petting zoo around. You walk through the garden center to the back where the entrance to White Post Farms is located and are greeted by a talking cow that welcomes you. This place is cash only, but the prices vary throughout the year from a peak of about $18 to the current off season price of $8. They send you coupons every weekend for an additional $2 off so this time of year I am only paying $6 for a place that is open from 10am to 5pm. Pony rides, train rides and food for the animals is all extra. As you first enter the petting zoo you will come across a family of pigs and a ton of goats, sheep and cows in an enclosed section that allows a little kid to see plenty of animals without freezing in the cold and is a spot you can come back into after you've gone out to see the rest of the zoo. Outside this area is a beautiful aviary filled with tiny birds that will land on sticks covered with seeds you can buy for $2 each.Outside they have more sheep, goats, cows, as well as llamas, kangaroos, antelopes, zebras, camels, pigs, donkey, ponies, rheas and rams. Pony rides are $5 and they have an indoor area where they do them if it's raining. They have about 10 miniature wood houses for the kids to play in along with a bunch of playground sets featuring ships, buses, trains, etc. with slides. They have two animatronic shows, one features singing chickens and a fox, the other is a barnyard band. These run every 15 to 30 minutes but they don't maintain them well. A couple chickens don't move much anymore and the barnyard band hasn't been moving in well over a month. They are cute when working and my 2 yr old doesn't seem to mind when they aren't. This area features a small train ride for the kids at $2 a ride and a bunch of the old coin op rides; horse, cars, trucks, etc. In the summer they have inflatables (water slides and bouncers) and a mining village too. They also have a different character every weekend from all the favorite kids shows to have pictures taken with. They have a concession stand with your usual; hots and hams, fries, pretzels, chicken fingers etc. All of these things are closed this time of year. You get a lot for the money although due to the costs you may not want to bring along any more adults then needed since everyone pays and again it's cash only. This time of year when the prices are low if we have a nice weekend it's well worth the trip!

This is a good spot for take-out at lunch. They have good sandwiches and soups. They could use more help behind the counter. In the summer there are picnic benches outside.

We have visited many times over the years and even had my grandson's 3rd birthday party there. Feeding the animals is always fun and special event activities are great. Also, don't miss the take out food!

Come prepared to spend the entire day. There are about 25 activites/events for one price except for a few attractions which cost extra but you will be having so much fun you probably will not mind paying a few dollars more for the other things. There are clean bathrooms and a nice variety of food at the Pitchfork food bar. Coffee and desserts are sold here also. There is live music and a wonderful dog show with performing dogs and the pig race is also fun. We enjoyed the hayride also and the exotic birds as well as the other animals there. I recommend this place for any family who wishes to visit.

I took my son to White Post Farms today. It was $16. per person just to get in. Lots of yard ornaments from China for sale. The petting zoo had a really nice assortment of animals but expect to pay to feed them. Each little bucket of food was $5 and each bottle was $2.50 i think. Anyway, you'll spend at least $15-20 doing that. The pumpkins were $.79 per pound and we got a huge one, that was another $35. The cotton candy was $5 and the blueberry pie as $19. They have a bird area you can walk into and buy 3 little popsicle sticks with food stuck to them for $5. The birds, and there are lots of them, will land on you to nibble the sticks. Very cool but I'm concerned that the birds are at risk of being stepped on. Taking all this in, it was nice to be outside. The petting zoo is definitely the draw and the idea of a "farm" is fleeting. I wonder how well the animals are cared for?

If you have young kids this is a really nice thing to do. If you live nearby it's fun to do every once in a while. Still, a lot of people come from the boroughs to this place and it gets pretty hairy at peak times like the Fall Festival. I live right around the corner and I totally avoid that part of Old Country Road on weekends during Oct. and Nov. Try to go during the week or at off-peak times.

Ok of all the farms I have been too now this is one of the best as far as things to do. The price is ok but should include more because there are plenty of extra 2 dollars here 5 dollars there. I have three kids so this can become pricey. The one good thing about this place is that they let you bring in your own food! Some of the animals look a bit on the neglected side. Over all its a great day but get the coupons they help

They had the best performing parrots I've ever seen. Obviously money is no object when keeping customers happy. This is a world class show on a farm. What a great experience for me and my children. Thank you WPF.

We go to White Post Farms of Melville at least twice a year with our two young kids: in summer, mostly for our kids to enjoy their wonderful wet slides, and in autumn, when they have great shows and pumpkins everywhere. Their little zoo is very nice, and the kids enjoy feeding goats and sheep. But our favorite part is their bird section where you can feed colorful parrots.

I have been here many times with my grandchildren, spring, summer, fall. Each season has its amazing attractions. I love the fall hay rides and pumpkin picking. The summer has of course the aminals and the water slides. Great place to spend the day and don't forget to go to their web site to get discount tickets.

I had never been here before and didn't do much research before hand. I was rather surprised by the amount of things to do. Cost wasn't bad either.

My family was looking for an interactive experience with animals in the metro area, and this came back as a recommended destination. It's only 45 minutes outside NYC, easy enough to get to via the Expressway, and it features a host of greedy and friendly little faces eager to be fed and pet. The clientele was mostly kids, to be sure, but both my wife and I (39 and 45) had an excellent time. The market up front features home and garden items, as well as a dandy grocer with farmstand goods.
