Do you come from the big city and in need of a touch of culture and art? Do you live in this beautiful rural area of northern NY and interested in a hint of city entertainment? Are you in need of something more than your kids high school plays, by artists who do such for a living, then this is a place you should consider. This is good clean entertainment. Staged at the Amtrak stop in Westport, NY, you could not ask for a more interesting venue. This old converted train station now seats about 150 folks. The seats are old, but very comfortable. More comfortable than any seat in any professional sporting complex I have ever been. More comfortable than most entertainment theaters I have been in. The air-conditioning works better than you can imaging, and in the hottest of the the humid northeast coast summers, this a/c will well chill you beyond extremes. You may feel like a sweater is the last thing you are going to bring with you on such a night, but you really should consider it.Westport, NY is just a stones throw across Lake Champlain from Vermont. Many folks boat into Westport for some food and if you are one of those, you should consider staying a little longer for some great entertainment. This location also has easy access from Interstate 87, one of the most beautiful highways passing through the Adirondack mountains of northern NY. This is fairly close to Montreal, Canada and about 2-2.5 hours north of Albany. So you see if you are thinking about vacationing in this area, you should make plans to visit the Depot Theater. You can even schedule a visit to the historic Fort Ticonderoga down in ticonderoga, about 20 miles away, and give your kids a fun through history event. The fort is a great place to allow the kids to run free and learn about the local history that was the cornerstone of our country. Yup, you cannot find a better place for a summer vacation.Every seat is a good seat. If you are one of those folks who thinks he has to have the first row, think twice. The best seats are off the front of the stage about 5-6 rows back. Because the venue seating is terraced like, every seat is a good seat. Concerned about being able to hear in the back, don't the sound system is excellent, even in the far back with is not that far. They get some really top notch acts here and you will not be disappointed. I have been there on 3 occasions and the entertainers are always very professional. Tickets are cheap. You must get there before Labor Day or you will miss the season.Normally the shows have an intermission so you can have an opportunity to make your break for the restrooms. Plan your restroom stop though as they have only about 3-4 restrooms that are open to either sex. Some light snacks and drinks are available. It is a real train station stop for Amtrak. In addition, the rail line is still used for freight trains. If you are lucky you will have the opportunity to hear a freight train come roaring through, on the tracks which are only 50' or so away from the inside of the theater. The theater rumbles, rattles, and shakes, as the train passes by.I make it to this place at least once every summer. They have never let me down, and of course did not on this occasion either. Give this place a try, you will not be disappointed. The Depot Theater, a fun place to experience.
