worcester market

I'm really sorry to see this wonderful little market close. It reminded me so much of the local market when I was growing up. Meats were made fresh. They had wonderful sausages and kielbasa.

I stopped in today hoping to find some homemade baked goods, but I was told that the woman who provided them passed away a month ago or so. What a huge loss! Anyways, this used to be the Worcester Grange Store and they have old photos from that era as well as some old calendars. If you like old buildings, old mom and pop stores and the authentic look of old time places, go to the Worcester Market.

Drive through Worcester, NY on route 7 and you'll certainly miss the Worcester Market if you don't know it's there. A tiny square sign hangs over an alcove on Historic Main Street and marks the entrance to the Worcester Market. At first, perusing the shelves you wouldn't know there is much special about this place: just typical dry and canned goods with a few veggies. But this is a local staple and a local favorite. The old-fashioned deli counter stocks local chicken, beef, and pork, and makes their own (amazing variety) of tasty sausages. They also make their own roast beef. You haven't tasted roast beef until you have a slice of this juicy, succulent, flavorful, tender...shall I go on?! It is melt-in-your-mouth goodness. They have also just begun stocking cooking grains and lentils from a local farm and a variety of hand-packed spices. If you're just passing through, you may not find much you need at the Worcester Market, but if you're here for a longer visit, this is the place to get your locally sourced foods.
