some traffic-calming procedures along hertel avenue have added even more to the potential enjoyment of this chile-like (long and narrow) neighborhood, where they speak almost as many languages as the united nations, and more understandable, too.... pick up a copy of the unique buffalo rocket newspaper, neighborhood voice of long standing, and the north park theater (separate review) has been gloriously restored.... sure miss holy angels academy on the east end, but if here around twilight between may and September, catch a ballgame (free) at Shoshone Park

It's fun to come to the Hertel Avenue strip to see what's new and different. There are always good places to eat and shops to stop into. Friday and Saturday nights are always "hopping."

Seems like many teachers live here and there are a lot of families. A great place to raise a family. Hertel needs some serious help with its food options though. Lombardos is delicious, you just can't go there very often or you'd break the bank. Kostas is also a good place.

I lived in North Buffalo for years, its the closest area I've found in the Buffalo to my Brooklyn home. The people are the coolest and a cultural mix of both young and old similar to park slope. Quiet and easy access to shopping, restaurants and Delaware park. So far was my favorite place to live. Still visit the shops and worship service every week. One of the nicest areas to live in, relative to homes, and safety.

North Buffalo has some of the best architecture home wise in the city. Old well cared for gorgeous mansions. Its the heart of Buffalo's "little Italy" and home of the yearly Italian fest. A must see area if visiting Buffalo for the first time. Take a drive around and see the architecture then stop and eat at one of the numerous delicious restaurants.

My store, The Antique Lamp Co. and Gift Emporium, has been on Hertel Avenue for over 15 years but it has only been recently that a renaissance has come to North Buffalo. Unique boutiques (such as ours!) and wonderful restaurants for every palate, have made it a wonderful place to spend the day. We hope everyone will visit Hertel Avenue and see all of what we have to offer!

What a great place to raise a family. Fantastic resources everywhere. LOVE Hertel Ave business district and the great resturants and shops. One problem: send your kids to private schools

So many great restaurants now/ Crave,Berthas,Lombardos,Romeos and Bellsara are some of our favs. All with great food and service. Several cafes and A Spot Coffee and Allegro round out a great street. Off street parking can be tough but it is very safe. Several boutique shops and do not miss M Donnelly Interiors with unique gifts. There is a bakery, liquor store, pharmacy and a kids high end consignment store. And of course the famous and recently refurbished North Park Theater( best popcorn on earth).Have lived in this area for many years and hope it stays great!!

The Hertel Avenue area of Buffalo has had a resurgence with new restaurants, boutiques, antique stores. Park your car and walk down and visit the local businesses. Stop and watch a movie in the newly refurbished North Part Theater and go back in time when a movie theater was something beautiful with the architecture and design

i grew up on saranac ave. and had a great childhood living in this area. I go back often and still enjoy all that this neighborhood has to offer. Very glad to hear that they are reopening North park theater! Bob and Johns la hacienda is a must visit for pizza. Parkside candies for ice cream is a family tridition.

What's not to like about north buffalo, except the winters of course. On one end you have the original UB campus and the other Hertel ave with its bars and restaurants I know people will say Hertel is north park but I always considered it part of noth buffalo.

The first thing that one thinks of when he hears "North BUffalo" is the thriving Hertel Avenue Shopping district. Here is where lovely antique stores, unique boutiques, and fabulous restaurants all line up in an old fashioned and historic business district. But besides Hertel Avenue, there are many other wonderful attractions in North Buffalo: the Buffalo Zoo, Frank Lloyd Wright's Darwin Martin Museum House, Delaware Park and the Parkside tour of Historic homes! Enjoy!

We like staying and eating in the Amherst area. The people tend to be nicer and friendlier. It is close to the university as well.

Part of this neighborhood has become known as "Little Italy". On Hertel Avenue you will find several small food stores, restaurants, gift shops and boutiques, all within a few short blocks from Delaware Ave. which also has many well known businesses. The Buffalo Zoo is located just minutes away from Hertel Ave. There are numerous older, larger homes (or mansions) that are in the area of Nottingham Terrace and Middlesex Ave. You will also find the Buffalo Museum Of Science and the Albright Knox Art Gallery located on the famous Elmwood Ave. nearby. The Buffalo New York State College campus is across the street from the Art Gallery. As you can see, there are many fun places to visit in this neck of town!

North Buffalo's Hertel Avenue runs five stop-lighted miles from the Niagara River to Main Street and it's a world tour without customs stops or GPS, numerous fine antique shops, various neighborhoods, a movie theater (the North Park) of which they don't make any more and even, for the wicked, a "smoke shop"... it's a little like the "South Pacific" about the gal who's "narrow as an arrow, but broad where a broad should be broad..." however, it largely shuts down for the mid-July Italian Festival, a joy for many, a nuisance for others including us...
