We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the museum and outbuildings, including art history display. Very reasonably priced at $5 donation each. Wonderful history, antiques and artifacts of the island. Bob was the perfect docent! So knowledgeable! Hi Bob!

Admission fee is voluntary. Several rooms of Monhegan items covering old-time life on the island, worth a visit while on island.

On the grounds of the lighthouse, this museum and adjoining art gallery give you insight in to some of the magic of the island. The museum has a mixture of art, artifacts, photographs, and other remnants of times past to contexualize your experiences of Monhegan Island. There is also a beautiful gallery that, at the time, we were visiting was focused on the recent 4th centennial. Fantastic paintings. There is a suggested donation of $5 per adult. There are also great artbooks available for purchase to understand the long history of art and artists that live on the island. I highly recommend a visit here. Locals and long-term visitors keep up the museum and gallery and are eager to share their knowledge and insights about the island.

Wonderful little museum that gives the history of the island as well as many artifacts from its residents over the years. Very worthwhile couple of hours to be spent learning of the island history.

Worth a visit because its location on the high point of the Island offers a great view. The visiting hours are so limited that it can be hard to find it open when you're on the Island. The exhibits are old fashioned and not appealing to a modern audience, but still interesting if you take the time.

Monhegan Island used to host a circus! granted the circus 'animals' were men and women dressed in paper mache lion heads and giraffe necks, but what fun! I love going to the museum and looking through this exhibit.

When I was on Monhegan it rained nearly the entire time. This was the perfect way to spend one of those afternoons when it was too miserable to even hike! I love history and lighthouses, so this kept me very busy. There were paintings by some very famous artists and a great history of the people of Monhegan as well as the lighthouse. The histories go hand in hand - as a lighthouse keeper, you were as much a part of the community as a fisherman. And when the sun DOES peek out the views are tremendous! Do not miss it.

Good thing to do on a rainy day. I really like knowing about the history of the island, the people who lived, worked and painted here.

A pleasure to see and behold the adventure that was then, living on an island....and in all seasons.Would have liked to stay a bit longer and have a supper, not just lunch. return in the early evening would be wonderful.......

Learn all about the history of the island - the people, the houses, the tools, interior and especially visit the Art Gallery adjacent to the Island Museum which changes annually.

Although this museum is not large, they pack a lot into it. You have to go slow and read everything. There are so many great stories portrayed here of lighthouse keepers, fisherman, education and even a circus.

One section has the island history - the newer section features a changing art exhibit. The museum is located at the top of Light house hill with spectacular views of the harbor and neighboring island of Manana.
