Nonesuch River golf club has a really nice track. Front nine is a bit more open and forgiving with water and sand traps to keep you honest while the back nice will challenge the pro golfer in all of us. The back nine is target golf with ravines through most fairways and most holes are 90 degree hard dog legs through the woods so there is no way to cut the corners. It is a very pretty course worth playing when in Portland. Even though the back nine chewed me up, I would play again any time.

Every year for the last ten years I have played this course when visiting family in Maine. It presents a challenge for an old duffer like myself, but the layout offers some great views in the woods. The staff is wonderful and very helpful. Great hot dogs available in the club house overlooking the 9th and 18th greens.

My husband and I played Nonesuch golf course yesterday. After 4.5 hours we quit after 15.5 holes. Ahead of us, a twosome, there were 3 foursomes and THEN a fivesome who successfully backed up the pace of play making it most unpleasant for us and the 3 groups ahead of us. Upon listening to our complaint about the abysmal course management (I should say nonexistent) we were offered 2 free passes. 100 free passes could not entice us to return. Most disappointing!!! The pro shop said they spoke to the 5 men 3 times. So why were their privileges not suspended??? Course management at its finest!!!

Great 18 hole track. Always well maintained. Front nine plays out in rolling parallel fairways while back nine disappears back into the woods. Lots of challenge even on the shorter holes, narrow fairways and well kept greens. We summer in the area and play here often. Go mid to late afternoon and the setting coming in on 18 with late sunlight is memorable. Great prices and bring some food for the food bank and get a discount, how can you beat that.

Nonesuch features narrow, tree-lined holes and links-style holes - a nice mix of layouts that never seems to be terribly busy. The course is well-played, but well managed, too. A few holes allow you to truly open up with the driver, but many require a 210-225 tee shot (for some, a 2 or 3 hybrid) with some degree of accuracy.

This is my favorite course in the Scarborough/South Portland area. Plays fun from the tips, greens are great fairways and tee boxes meticulously kept and the rough is rough. the owner Dan has been a big supporter of this community for years and always keeps the same staff there and happy. The members seem happy and they get a good amount of play. Should you play anything else in these two towns your wasting your money. Should you want to drive south 15 minutes play another beautiful course Mr. Horrihan manages Dunegrass Country Club, another beautiful and challenging course.

I played the Nonesuch River Golf Club and found it to be very playable. The people at the pro-shop were very friendly and helpful with hints about playing certain holes. It is not along course and the greens were in good shape. Green fees are reasonable and I found the course very well maintained. I'll play it again for sure as the play was fast in the middle of the week.
