eartha, the world's largest revolving and rotating globe

I went here because we geocache and if you do it's cool to see the delorme headquarters and this HUGE moving Globe puts thing in such perspective. Their store had every map you could possibly think of and of all places the cheapest post cards around (I collect them and wanted some to send friends/family they were only .10 each!!! so I stock piled here). Lady asked me if there were any left on the shelf ha, ha. They were filming when we were there so it was pretty cool.

If you are in the area Eartha is something to stop by and see. The rotating globe is very impressive and there are levels to view it from up high - quite the globe made to scale! There is a nice gift shop with very unique items to purchase also.

A really HUGE globe of the Earth greets you in this three-story lobby of Delorme Corporation! It is fascinating to watch this monstrous orb slowly rotate while you study the topography of the land and the oceans! Delorme also has a very large gift shop chock full of all sorts of unusual gift items for all ages! This is a really cool place to visit!!!!

The world's largest revolving globe is a must-see for those who travel to Yarmouth. It is sometimes missing a few pieces, which means they have been taken down for cleaning or repair,but at any given time, 95-98% of it is there. Children especially enjoy going up to the third floor to check it out from a better vantage point. Yes, there are three stories from which to check it out. I recommend trying all three, starting at the top and working your way down. There is an elevator for those of us who can't do stairs. And there is an attached map store, where you can buy almost anything from a map to an atlas, to even books about New England and the rest of the world.

The earth globe is absolutely amazing! The size of it alone is just stunning and when you drive by at night, it lights up and is a really great place to take children for a wonderful learning experience.

This place has a very impressive giant rotating globe. You ca go up to a third floor to see it better. The shop has a nice assortment of maps, books, globes etc. Clean bathrooms and places to rest. They also have a very large parking lot.

We went here with our family and my kids loved it here. The globe is quite the sight to see!! Its massive

This is magnificent! You can see it on 3 levels. What is interesting is follows the earths movement in real time.

Went with my wife and daughter and really enjoyed ourselves. A 3 story revolving globe is pretty impressive. While not the most action packed activity there is, Eartha is fun and unique. The map store is pretty awesome for map lovers and kids as well. I think the Eartha experience becomes more impressive when you learn some of the facts behind Eartha like...* It took two years to build.* It rotates and revolves on a specially designed and built mechanized, cantilever arm.* Every aspect of Eartha was developed using computer technology. It was designed by founder David DeLorme. and constructed by DeLorme staff members. * The mapping data, which took over a year to compile, is completely unique. It is a special composite database built from satellite imagery, shaded relief, colored bathymetry (ocean depth data) and information from terrestrial sources, such as road networks and urban areas. * The printed Eartha database is equivalent to about 140 gigabytes, making it one of the largest in the world! Its scale is 1:1,000,000, which works out to be one inch equaling nearly 16 miles. At this scale, California is three and a half feet tall!* Eartha's "skeleton" is the Omni-Span™ Truss structure - a DeLorme-developed system of over 6,000 pieces of lightweight aluminum tubing. The "skin" is constructed of over 792 map sections, printed on special materials and mounted on lightweight panels. Those panels are then affixed to the structure with a unique bolt system. Each panel spans 8° latitude by 10° longitude.* Eartha tilts at 23.5 degrees, just as the earth does. It revolves on a specially designed cantilever arm and rotates on an axis. This action is powered by two electric-powered motors, which are commanded by a computer. One combined Eartha revolution and rotation occurs every minute at maximum speed.

It's ok if you happen to be driving by and want to have a look. It's free and there is a nice gift shop and clean toilets. I would not go out of the way.

We travelled to Yarmouth specifically to see this unique huge revolving globe. Because of the roadway location, it is easy to miss the turning onto Delorme Drive. Overall we were disappointed with this attraction. It certainly is amazing what the Delorme folks have achieved in building this revolving structure, however the atrium where it is housed is not very suitable for tourist photography (unless you have a wide lens). And the glass windows reduce the clarity of photos taken from the outside. It would also have been more interesting if there were more details on the globe (such as country names and major cities) – on the other hand, in its current form, it is a good test of one’s geography knowledge! The map store next to the globe is excellent – huge selection of worldwide maps and travel guides, plus other novelties and gifts/souvenirs.

This giant revolving globe is interesting enough to stop to see if you are in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. It is located at the Delorme map company headquarters. It stands about 2 or 3 stories high and is located in the building atrium surrounded by glass walls. It is pretty amazing to watch it revolve in that space. Taking pictures is a challenge though. There is a gift shop where you can buy just about any map imaginable and lots of geography related items. I enjoyed the chance to see this huge globe but only spent about 15 minutes there.

This was our second time to view Eartha. The first was a nighttime drive by - which was a nice way to see Eartha. This time we got to come in and see the globe up close and spend some time in the map store. If you are in the area and have time this stop is worth it. Glad we got to go inside this time.

My husband told me about this giant world globe. There was no need to refuse to stop and see it because we drove almost past it on our way to Boothbay Harbor from Portland. It's quite something though difficult to photograph. It's just outside the map store in the lobby of the building.. If you need a map or globe, you could certainly find it here. Parking is easy in the large lot.

This was an impulse stop on the way back from Freeport. I originally had no interest because I thought - it's just a big globe. When you pull up there is this gigantic world sitting in the window of the building. Then as you step in side, you are greeted with the overwhelming presence of Eartha. It's truly a beautiful and fun thing to watch and you can climb up 3 floors to get different perspectives. If you're contemplating skipping this, I would think again. It's an oddity attraction that you can spend as little as 30 minutes here and you'll leave happy you stopped.
