Great for kids, though be careful with real little kids, it can go very fast and might be too scary for them. A great calliope , brass rings, and the horses are terrific.It is opposite a beautiful park overlooking the Providence river, and Blount has a clam shack right there.

The Loof Carousel is one of the Oldest Carousel's still in operation in the Country. Our grandchildren live close by Crescent Park and it's one their favorite places to go. If you have children and are in the area it's a must see and enjoy it's Old Fashioned Charm.

Beautiful, fair priced, a bit fast, overall a must see. Organ music is loud. Great landscaping. Fun, fun fun.

Simple, classic carousel. The organ is old but not original. Kids love it. Crescent Park is huge and worth a visit.

Beautiful, one of a kind, historic carousel! I had a great time wtih grandkids and family catching brass rings. The manager even stopped the carousel to capture a picture of the 4 generations of our family who had ridden the carousel. A wonderful experience!

This was a very cool attraction! The carousel is over 100 years old and still working nicely. It's very old fashioned right down to the signs that were posted about staying seated and buckled in. It's not expensive and it is definitely something worth visiting. My boyfriends uncle told us that it was the oldest carousel in the United States. I haven't done much research on that but it seems legitimate! Anyways, the carousel as very cool and we had a great time. (:

I grew up about one mile from the Looff Carousel at Crescent Park in Riverside, Rhode Island. My sister and I would go there 2 or 3 times each summer while we were growing up with our parents. The first time each summer coincided with the end of school. If we got As and Bs on our report card, the students at nearby Oldham school would get free admission and rides into the park. My favorite ride was the 1895 Looff Carousel with its beautifully carved horses. German immigrant Charles Looff designed and built the Looff Carousel and its horses and other mythical creatures by hand in the 1890s, and from then on, Crescent Park was the place to go every summer for dancing in Shore Dinner Hall, clam chowder and clam cakes and the rides.In the late 1970s, Crescent Park was closed and many warm fuzzy childhood memories went with it. Most of the rides were torn down for senior housing which is still an eyesore to many from the area, and they wanted to tear down the Carousel, but two determined ladies, Gail Durfee and the late Rose Larisa fought to keep the historical carousel running and for about 7 years they scraped to raise money for repairs and by the summer of 1984, the Looff Carousel was back and up and running. I was there for the grand reopening and was thrilled to once again ride the carousel, which then was 25 cents.Cut to 2014, and I was back at the Carousel. Rides now cost a dollar but it was well worth it for one more ride on the Carousel. I was like a little kid again and was reliving many happy memories of several rides on the Carousel with my sister next to me and Nana standing by us or riding in the camel carriage. It was a lot of fun riding the Carousel again and it is a warm memory of my recent trip to Rhode Island.No trip to the Carousel is complete without a meal of clam chowder and clam cakes at the Blount seafood trailer on the grounds. For about $6 you can get a good sized cup of chowder with clam cakes. I was in heaven after the first bite of Crescent Park Clam Cakes in many years. It was well worth the wait in the long lines for the food. The Looff Carousel is open daily during the summer and into the night. If you are in the Riverside area, make sure you make a trip to the Looff Carousel. Even if you didn't grow up there, you will understand why it is a place of happy memories.

this was a showroom for the carousel manufacturer and has many different style horses. clam cakes and chowder can be purchased and viewed across the street while viewing Narragansett Bay

It's always a pleasure to visit and ride the Loof Carousel at Crescent Park. I grew up in EP and spent many Sundays at the park with family and friends. Riding the beautiful horses was such a thrill and when I grew old enough to pull the rings I knew I had arrived! As a teen and through college I worked at McCusker's Pop Corn Stand across from the carousel and actually knew what song would be played on the organ before it started. Now it is a honor to take my younger grandchildren and great grandchildren for a ride just as I took my children and older grandchildren when they were young. It has been restored and is as good as it was in the 40's and 50's when I was a kid. Be sure to take your family there when your in the East Providence area.

if you need to remember how thing were back in the day then spend a couple of hours looking on the walls of this place.the information that the committees of the carousel past and present that has been displayed here is incredible to see as well as the ride itself

The Carousel in East Providence is a great place for a family outing. When done riding on the carousel you can get great food at Blout's outside diner within walking distance. Food is a little pricey, but great.

A great experience for the little one's but also enjoyable for the adults! Price is reasonable. Trying to catch the rings and then get them into the clowns mouth is fun for all. Love this place!

All the locals still remember the old park, and are thrilled to have the carousel remaining here in Riverside. We take the little ones, but everyone including adults ride and try to catch the brass ring. Not many still offer the brass ring, so it's extra special. There is also ice-cream and lunch offered outside. Picnic tables to eat at. Sometimes there is face painting and car shows. The little park across the street is great for a walk or play in. Best of all the view of the ocean cove. It's fun to look at the old pictures on the walls and try to picture what it was like back to the beginning of the park.

The Crescent Park Looff Carousel in East Providence, RI was originally part of the much grander Crescent Park Amusement Park built in 1895. It still stands today and is even listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. It was designed by Charles I.D Looff, a world renowned designer most notably know for his Coney Island carousel and his elaborate hand carved wooden horses. Crescent Park’s carousel contains 61 horses (56 which jump), a camel, two coaches and two double chariots. The ride is magical and fun for all ages. Waiting for your turn to ride you stand behind a rope and secretly plan out which horse you will choose. As the rope is lifted your heart begins to race and all your plans go out the window and you run like the wind to the first horse you can find (preferably on the outer edge). The outer row is preferred because of its accessibility to the ride’s game of chance (I’ll get to that in a minute). As you mount your steed and belt in, your excitement is doubled as the bell sounds to begin the ride. The motor slowly starts to gain power and the ride begins to rotate, the imported german band organ begins to play. Just as you begin to enjoy the sights and sounds of flying through the air, the game of chance begins! Crescent Park Carousel is one of the few carousels to still have a brass ring grab and ring toss. While the ride spins you must precariously lean to your left holding to the brass pole with one arm and reaching for a brass ring the size of a silver dollar with your right. Grab the gold ring and you get a free ride! With the rings you gather you then begin to toss them at a target, slowly building up your aim. Just as you think you can finally make it in, like clockwork, the ride comes to an end.Rides on the Crescent Park Looff Carousel are a steal at only $1 and never get old. For me the ride is not just a fun summer escape for a laugh and a bit of excitement, it’s the fact that it’s been building that excitement for over 100 years. It’s been entertainment for my great grandparents, my grandparents, my parents, my generation and oh so many more. Like New England the Crescent Park Looff Carousel will always have a place in my heart and bring me an unexplained giddiness whenever I think about it. If in the area don’t hesitate taking a spin. Breathe in the history and much like life, enjoy the ride for what it’s worth!
