Nathan Mott park is best accessed by parking in the small lot just south of the entrance to the Block Island Airport on the opposite side of the road. At that point you will find a parking area, bike racks and an information board. The trail, also called the "Enchanted Forest" by many locals, heads west and it is clear to see where you should be walking. (Remember; if it looks like a deer path, it probably is a deer path.)This path winds around through a pretty field and then up towards a stand of evergreen trees. Often, if you search the ground under these trees, you can find an owl pellet. The uphill path from here has been leveled into steps buffered by 4x4's . At the top you will have a choice of which way to go; North towards Beacon Hill Road, South towards Old Mill Road or west towards Turnip Farm and Loffredo Memorial Preserve. Or, you can turn around and head back at this point. The time it takes will depend on which trails you decide to take at the top of the hill.Stop into the Chamber of Commerce office in Old Harbor to purchase a trail map. You can also purchase on at the Block Island Conservancy office on Weldon's Way.Don't forget that the Block Island Tourism council hides beautiful glass globes along the trails for hikers to hunt for; keep your eyes open for more than owl pellets, deer and birds. All in all, this is a great walk and not very difficult.
