elkhorn creek

Arrived for a family event in Lexington and was looking for something to do with our two teenage boys. We decided to kayak down Elkhorn Creek and had a great time doing it. Creek is a bit of a misnomer. I didn't realize that the designation "River" is based on distance and Elkhorn Creek is one mile short (99 miles) of being a River. No matter. We were fortunate to have a great spring day in the 70s. It had rained a decent amount the week before, so there was decent flow to the River. We rented kayaks from Canoe Kentucky. You can choose from a 6 or 12 mile trip. We chose 6 and got bussed to the starting point. The kayaking was easy and relaxed. There were a few minor rapids, but nothing most people couldn't handle. The trip takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours depending on how aggressively you choose to paddle. Since we went on a Friday, there were very few others on the River.Great time. Well worth it.

This creek has smooth with light riffles runs to more challenging runs. Livery service or rental of kayaks or canoes @Canoe Kentucky.

I don't live but maybe a half-mile from this creek, which winds its way through Frankfort and Franklin County. Great for canoeing--when the water is high enough. Elkhorn Falls is very nice and peaceful.

Fun place to fish, wade, or tube the creek. But wait until summer time or the water is gonna be cold. Watch out for the grouch that lives beside the damn.

Elkhorn creek is a beautiful creek that flows thru several counties. I was born and raised in Frankfort, KY. I couldn't tell you how many summer days I spent fishing, swimming and canoeing elkhorn creek. They have a wide variety of fish from bluegill to brim to bass and catfish. Several great swimming holes with rope swings and platforms to swing or jump from into elkhorn creek. I loved canoeing it. You could pack a lunch and your fishing poles. Canoe several miles fishing along the way. Stopping to swim whenever and having a nice picnic lunch. Good OL' fun for there whole family. The kids don't have fun like this anymore! Great chance to get them outdoors!

KY州の野生生物保護局で保護していることもあり、バスやサンフィッシュの魚影濃いです。川沿いに何箇所か水面にアクセスできる場所ありますが、ｶﾇｰ/ｶﾔｯｸを使っての釣りもおもしろいです。フランクフォートの近くにｶﾇｰ/ｶﾔｯｸのレンタルをしてくれるところがあり、そこで借りるのがお勧めです。尚、釣りをする時にはフィッシングライセンスの取得・携帯を忘れずに（保護局の係官がチェックすることあります）。
