I'm going to be nice. This place is not like it used to be back in the day. Loretta grow up in a shack. The shack is gone. This is a dolled up version of what could have been. Thank goodness the county paved the road up to her house at least, unlike the other roads around it. The only real truth to the area is that some people are still pooping in out-houses. Just go ahead and look at the pictures on the internet and save your money and time.

It was a place that I had heard about all my life. I wanted to go see it. I went with a friend. It took a little while to get there. It was a beautiful area. I was expecting to find poverty instead I found such a beautiful area nestled in a holler. Loretta's brother Herman Webb walked up to the house and showed it to us. To anyone that has grown up in Eastern or South Eastern Ky the items and condition of the house was the same as what they were accustomed to. The decor was what so many grew up with. Glad that I went. Enjoyed meeting her brother.

Don't review many attractions, but had to tip my hat to this one. Not only is the house in it's original condition, but the drive to get there is awesome too. Our tour was given by Herman Webb, who is Loretta's brother. He's the nicest guy and has great memories of the goings on in the house. We stopped at Webb's general store on the way in, it's a cool old store but not the friendliest worker there on our day. If you are a fan--this is a must

We went there several years ago. Loved seeing where Loretta grew up. Very well kept up and house was in great condition. Loved seeing it set up the way it would have been when they were living there.

This is a great quick stop. Nothing fancy just nice to see Loretta Lynn's birth place. Doesn't take too much time at all. Maybe 30-45 min to stop for a quick "look see". The road to get there is ummm....rough...this kind of shocked me....I would have thought Loretta owned it and took care of the area, but she has no involvement with her childhood home. The dirt trail is narrow and small the closer you get to the cabin. So, don't plan on taking your large SUV or RV out there you will just be stuck. There are usually horses in the front of the cabin (2 or 3 of them) so bring a few apples or carrots with you, great experience for the kids.

When growing up my dad listened to Loretta Lynn and Crystal Gayle on 8-track tapes so I knew a lot if their music. I was visiting in the Van Lear area so I had to go see the house they grew up in. It is nicely done with things on display from her career, pictures and origional furnishings. It was off the beaten path but signs lead me off of route 302 right to the house.Herman's Webb's daughter gave the tour and was very friendly and informative.

First, you MUST understand that Loretta Lynn was not born into wealth and prosperity. No one actually lives in this home - her brother maintains it in his own time with the help of his friends. It is literally in a "holler" (known to Northerns as a "hollow"). To get there, type "Butchers Hollow" in your GPS. The address in this listing is WRONG - follow the GPS directions to Butchers Hollow and that will lead you first to the General Store (on your right) and then straight on to the home. You need to either stop by the store to request a tour ($5/person) from her brother or call the number posted at the gate to the house. We got lost 3 times before we just plugged "Butchers Hollow" into the GPS. It took us straight there (which we verified with a nice local gentleman working on his car outside his home).If you're a Loretta Lynn fan, the house is very cool. It doesn't look like it's changed much over the years. We ran into the caretaker when we were there and he explained the work they've done over the years. Totally worth a stop if you're within a 30-mile radius of the place.

This is as authentic as you can get if you are a fan of country music and particularly of Loretta Lynn. Although it is a little off the beaten path, it is well worth the extra time it takes to visit. Loretta's brother, Herman Webb runs the old time general store just down the road from the homeplace and usually conducts the tour. He is a great guy and loves to tell about his family growing up in Butcher Holler, Ky. You will enjoy your visit to this site and the many others in the Paintsville area.

Once found, this is a wonderful spot to visit. Loretta's brother is an engaging host and you soon feel like you've been friends for years. Well worth the effort to visit. On the confusing side...don't put the 304 main street address in your gps as this will take you to a small privately owned business downtown. The listed phone number on tripadvisor is for the Country Music museum outside of Paintsville on rte 23, whom you contact anyway. Just google the museum's address and go there where the extremely friendly staff will call ahead for you to make sure someone will meet you and also provide a map with easy directions to get you there. So glad we stopped by to check this spot out & the $5 fee is well spent.

So this is a little off the beaten path -- yes we got lost -- but once you arrive in Butcher Hollow you will be glad you found it. Her home and the town give you a sense of how hard life was in this coal mining town and how remarkable it is that she made her way out. A lesson that is pretty grounding and humbling.Oh and did I mention that is a pretty beautiful place that is perfectly non commercialized.

My husband and I went alone to see the homeplace the first time. We didn't take the fast highways but took the mountain roads. A second time had to be. My daughter , my hubby and I love Loretta and her special ways. We again had taken the mountain route marked in my atlas. But somehow I remembered the way. The route in was not as brushy and rough the second time. We met some of Loretta's relatives- and friends Moony had once lived with. The house was not set up for viewing inside,. The third time we took our youngest. I could no longer walk so my hubby and she went inside. We ended up having a flat . Herman helped us pump it up with a hand pump. We had seen Loretta so many times in concert around the country. We love her like family and wish we were able to see her again in concert. She is the best. I am ten yrs younger and have appreciated her love and commitment to her Doo. My husband and I just celebrated our 51 st. One day as Christains maybe we will meet in heaven .

It's the second time I visited this beautiful place and hopefully not the last. Don't forget to stop by Webb groceries on they way in. Very nice people beautiful beautiful ❤

It was a little hard to find and, at times, we stopped to ask folks if we were on the correct road to get there. Brother met us there and he was very cordial and informative about the homestead. A must if you visit Paintsville, Ky.
