I visited the new Jenny Wiley theater in downtown Pikeville, KY for a performance of Sleep In Safety, the Octavia Hatcher Story. It was great! The temperature was a bit too warm for me inside the theater, and I typically freeze. So if you get warm easily, you may want to consider dressing a bit cooler. Our seats were very comfortable and we enjoyed the show from just a few rows back from the stage. The performers were amazing in bringing these characters back to life. It was an overall very nice experience. The tickets were about $22 each for this performance, but if you watch the JWT website and check their calendar, they do offer specials such as their 4 for $40. I have seen several JW performances, and I have been very pleased with each and every one. If you do like to take in good theater shows, JWT is worth it.

My family and I went to the Pikeville location of the Jenny Wiley Theatre and saw Feud Part 1: The Story of Johnse Hatfield and Roseanna McCoy. It was awesome. It didn't seem like and hour and a half went by a fast as it did. We a going to watch Part 2 tomorrow night. Highly recommend!

Loved our time at Jenny Wiley theater both at the park in Prestonsburg and at the new indoor theater in Pikesville. Saw three plays in two days with many incredibly talented individuals who showed their versatility. The same cast members in multiple shows over the two days and they were believable in every single part they played. Would definitely recommend using bug spray before attending the outdoor theater as the stage and seating area are nestled within the wood setting which is nice and cool but the bugs bite so prepare before you go.

Wonderful musical of South Pacific! Always a special outing to Jenny Wiley Theatre no matter what the performance.

The musical was excellent. We were inside and the seating was great. Each row was higher than the one below. There were no bad seats. We enjoyed the musical and visiting Pikeville.

This was my first visit to this outdoor theatre which is celebrating 50 years in 2014. We saw South Pacific which was the first play produced on the stage way back 50 years ago. Surprisingly the play itself is not outdated even though it focuses on a group of sailors, nurses and people on an island in the South Pacific during World War II. It remains a delightful musical with a lot of serious things to say about racial prejudice and human relations. It also has quite a few funny songs and bits with a cast that in this production took full advantage of the comedic aspects of the play. The cast was wonderful and they could sing and act, so it was a highly satisfying preformance. The stage was well suited for the play which is amazing considering the scene was often a beach or a mansion on a hill or a barracks. The live band provided a good rendition of the music, which you may find yourself humming a week later. Overall it was a unique experience and worth the trip from Lexington to see what's been going on in the hills for the last 50 years. The cast members came from across the nation and even locally. For summer outdoor theatre it was a fun experience, as a note it is outdoor so be aware of the weather and bugs, etc. there is now an indoor playhouse in Prestonburg as well.

Went to 2 shows this summer. Good for a local theatre. Will go again. One inside....seating not very good. 1 outside. Could see better.

I gave this an average rating because they really need to improve the seating inside. The chairs are on a level floor throughout the theatre and they are VERY uncomfortable. Glad to see the Arts in this area and the performers do give it their all, but personally I'm just not a fan of musicals.
