We were so impressed with the restoration of Bill Monroe's home place. It' a beautiful area, beautiful drive and beautiful experience. We were given an excellent tour of the house and a chance to walk the grounds. I would recommend it to anyone interested, a bluegrass fan or not.

A founder and Editor of ROSINE MAGAZINE, I think I can say a thing or two about Bill Monroe's Homeplace at Rosine, Kentucky. A very small town tucked away in the hills of Kentucky is the hallowed ground where the genre of Bluegrass Music was originated in the early 1900's by Kentucky's own, Bill Monroe. When you drive from the center of town around the curve by the old railroad tracks and wind your way up the hill, you'll pass Charlie Monroe's old house and arrive at the original restored old homeplace where Bill and Charlie grew up as children. What a splendid and authentic restoration! Friendly and knowledgeable guides will escort you through the house and grounds and tell you true stories about the birth of Bluegrass and the lives of the Monroe's. There is a lot of history that comes alive as you walk in the same place where the truly American for of music took shape. It has a special feel that makes it so unique. The neighboring restaurants, country stores, old barn Friday night jamboree, antique shops and simple country folk make a visit to Rosine in Western Kentucky a real treat. If you're not already a Bluegrass Music fan when you come to visit, you certainly should be when you leave. It has tendency to grow on you. I highly recommend Rosine, The Home of Bluegrass Music, as a wonderful destination.

Visiting the Bill Monroe homeplace is an inspirational and emotional experience. The home itself was in a very deteriorated state when Campbell and Julie Mercer came in with a plan for restoration. They have performed a job well done. One can only imagine Bill hearing his first music here.Any Bluegrass fan should visit the place where Bluegrass started. The tour guides are volunteers and are very knowledgeable. While visiting, be sure to go two miles up the main highway into Rosine and visit the cemetery where Bill, his parents, Uncle Pendleton Vandiver and Bill's brothers and sisters are laid to rest. Another emotional experience. Both places are great to visit while the Jerusalem Ridge Bluegrass Festival is going on, the first part of October every year. A great event.
