We stayed at the Hells a Roarin Ranch for 5 days. The family that runs the ranch is amazing. They welcome you into their home, the moment you arrive. We had originally rented a wall tent, but no one was staying in one of the cabins, so they asked if we'd prefer a cabin at no extra charge. Our kids 10 and 13, loved being around the teenage/college hired hands and we learned alot about ranch life. My daughter is hoping to work a summer their in the future, we'll see! They served us all meals and made exceptions on time for breakfast when we wanted to sleep in just a tinge one morning. Our family would highly recommend this ranch. Beautiful scenery, beautiful home, great cabins, and great hospitality!

Great horses, amazing actually. Good tack. We saw plenty of elk and deer. We went on a very aggressive ride to get to the animals. The cabin gave us our privacy.

It was a slow slow horse ride on a hot summer day in July. i went on the wrong season. the ride felt forever, even though i took the 2 1/2 hours or 3 hours ride. The horses go really slow because of the narrow path on the mountain. the only animal i saw was something that looks like a gopher, can't remember exactly the name. additionally, the drive there was not fun. roads are bumpy. take a tour if you go, this way, you don't have to drive. there are lots of flies, mosquitos. bring your bug spray.

It had always been a dream of mine to go horse riding in Montana, and while on holiday in Yellowstone and having traveled from Ireland decided to on hell's a roarin ranch. I was not disappointed at all the ride was fantastic and everything I could have wished for, myself my partner and our 7 year old daughter all enjoyed the ride, I can ride so can my daughter but my partner never had but he still enjoyed it and the horses were well behaved. We did the 3 and half hour trail ride the scenery was stunning what was also great was the guides a young man at the front was fantastic and great with our daughter her led her for the first white but then she was able to ride on her own and he told her how to get the horse going herself when he stopped for grass he was very patient and well mannered. We were so lucky to see a black bear and 3 cubs on our ride this for us was incredible and a memory I will always remember. For my daughter it was her highlight of our 2 week holiday and she loved the horse she rode(little chief). I would defiantly recommend the ranch for a wonderful ride what was also nice was that on our ride there was only the 3 of us and another group of 4 people compared to the long lines of people at the corrals in Yellowstone park.

I had never been on a horse before. I was given a horse that I was told is ridden by the nearly 100 year old grandmother. That was soothing enough to hear. The good news is that iit was a peaceful ride, and the horse seemed to know that I was a newbie and accommodated me, determined to allay any outstanding concerns. We forded streams. We saw bison sunning themselves. We went through the woods and we were out in the open, taking in vistas of the majestic, snow-capped mountains. It was truly everything I dreamed for it to be.Later, around the campfire, the guitars were strumming and the crew were singing, and they provided ambiance to embellish the experience. It isn't about the food. It isn't about the guides. It isn't about the horses themselves. It is about making memories. And there are just so many reasons to enjoy the surroundings, the scents, the sounds and the substance that you will have a great treasure trove of memories to take with you. Relax, and rejuvenate!

Went on a 2 hour trail ride with a 8 and 11 year old. The horses were well behaved and the guides were professional. Coming from the flat Midwest the views on the first half of the ride were breath taking. I would do this ride again in a heart beat. Would probably just go for the 1 hour trip the next time. The second half was back in the wood and there was not much to see. It was the highlight of the trip.

I was quite disappointed with Hell's a-roarin. I find it so interesting that other reviewers write about how well trained the horses are when I didn't experience it that way.... I thought the horses were not especially well-trained - our horses stopped to eat grass almost continuously and would not stop even when I kicked and pulled with all my strength. They often passed each other. My son's horse was so difficult to manage, the leader had to pull him along. My daughter's horse got spooked (I realize this can happen anywhere) until eventually she fell off. I would have thought they would show some concern or apologize (as in, "I'm sorry that happened, are you okay?") but nothing. The guides almost didn't say one word. The ride itself (2 hour) was quite pretty but not exciting. We had gone on a 4 hour ride in Cody, WY a few days earlier (Bill Cody Ranch) which was so incredible (great horses, amazing views) that this was a disappointment for us. (On the plus side they have the nicest bathroom you'll ever find at a horse ranch!)

We recently went on the most gorgeous horseback ride I have been on in Montana. These guys are very professional and make your safety is a priority. Our participants had a blast and the guides took good care of us. Would highly recommend them.

Wow..... I booked a two-hour ride for our family (my husband, myself, and our three children) and it was definitely the highlight of our Yellowstone vacation! The level of professionalism was awesome. We accidentally arrived one hour early (thinking our ride was scheduled at 8am instead of 9am). Never once did the young people who work there correct me. They simply got our horses ready and off we went early! I realized later my mistake. The horses were gentle enough that our 7 year old was able to ride by himself. The scenery was breathtaking! It was the perfect way to begin the morning. I would highly recommend this for anyone visiting the area.

We booked at an agent's in Gardiner and then made our own way up to Hell's A-Roarin'. We met our horses who were very gentle and well trained and took the 2 hour trail ride. My 14 year old daughter was very nervous, but the young lads who work there put her at ease and led her until she felt more comfortable. The scenery was spectacular and 2 hours was just right for us as infrequent riders. Top notch safety and customer service. Would love to go back and stay there some time!

We got off the beaten tourist path and went deeper into the awesomeness of Yellowstone Park -- all possible through HellsaRoarin Outfitters, our guide extraordinaire (Jeremiah), and our wonderful new equine friends. Our ultimate goal was to fly fish Slough Creek. In spite of rainy weather and poor fishing we had a blast with our friends from New Hampshire and our day adventure, complete with full picnic lunch, making new memories for a lifetime! I've attached a few snaps!

Well behaved horses, beautiful scenery. We only did the hour ride because I only get to ride a couple times a year and knew a longer ride would make me sore. Our guide was a true horsemen and answered all our questions . I think my sister talked his ear off . I definitely would recommend this ride to anyone wanting to spend time in a saddle. A wonderful experience!

We rode a one hour morning ride at Hell's A-Roarin' Outfitters in late July. Our guide, Chandler, was friendly and knowledgeable. The entire staff at the ranch were wonderful, very accommodating of our individual needs and overall just wonderful to deal with. Being a rider and owning my own horses, just coming off of an injury, I especially appreciated the extra care taken to ensure I was paired up with a horse that met my needs. As it turns out, our guide, Chandler and I knew some of the same people! Nice to chat with someone who was familiar with the area I lived in and so open and sharing of his experiences!

Our family (boys ages 16, 14 and 11) scheduled the 1-hour evening horseback ride and cowboy dinner through Flying Pigs. Super experience! It's about a 7-mile drive to the ranch from Gardiner, MT -- and much of it is on dirt/gravel road. But it is worth it! They match you with a horse that will fit you best. There were a couple of young gals who brought us our horses and showed us how to get on them - then explained how to command the horse. The gal who helped me was very reassuring about the Oxbow (my horse). She told me she was a good horse and I had no worries. Sam and Silas were our guides (one rode in front, and one behind us) -- and we felt safe and secure. The ride was like something out of a dream - The scenery was just breathtaking! The trail took us on the side of a mountain overlooking the Yellowstone River, through a forest, over a creek, through a wildflower dotted meadow - seriously. I felt like I was dreaming. The boys loved it! They didn't want it to end. After the ride, we had some time to wash up and chat with the guides before supper. The meal we had was the best of our entire 9-day trip to Yellowstone! The steak was yummy and the kids are still talking about the cornbread.Really fantastic experience!

This was our second trip to Hells A Roarin (our first was 4 years ago) and again was one of the highlights of our Yellowstone vacation. We did a one hour ride and Chandler our guide was friendly and very knowledgable and a lot of fun. The views on the ride were gorgeous and even a little rain at the end of our ride sounded so pretty in the woods. The horses are well behaved but you don't feel like you are riding a glue horse. After our ride, we had dinner and a campfire complete with marshmellow roasting. Dinner was excellent with a ton to eat but the best part of Hells A Roaring is how they make you feel like part of the family. Everyone is friendly and the Johnson's open up their home to share a little mountain hospitality. This a well run family business and you can tell they are glad that you stopped in.....highly recommend!!
