two medicine lake

Actually there are two lakes here, one called Lower Two Medicine Lake and the other called Upper Two Medicine Lake. They are separated by a small stream the connects the two. The NPS gives boat rides on both lakes for a very reasonable fee and that would save a lot of hiking.

After our long hike we went to Two Medicine Lake. The lake was nice but, I do not think you can every go swimming it (it was very cold). The mountains around it where also a nice addition.

We traveled up to Two Medicine for the boat ride. Many folks over look this area of the park but in my opinion only Many Glacier is more beautiful. I was also surprised to find out as we went to enter the park that I was eligible for a free lifetime Handicap pass to all the national parks. I was all prepared to ante up for a senior pass but gladly took the opportunity to put my tax dollars to work.The vistas at Two Medicine, as I mentioned, are wonderful. We soaked them in and I told She Who Must Be Obeyed this was only a warm up for what was to come. The reservation system was flawless and it was greatly enjoyed. The tour guide was good, but failed to understand my first rule of public presentations - leave humor out. What you or I consider funny may not be so to others, so it is time to join the priesthood and just abstain.

We stayed in nearby East Glacier and had reserved a spot on the boat at Two Medicine. We ate our lunch by the lake and then boarded the 1:00 ranger led boat trip to Twin Falls. We enjoyed the boat ride where a ranger gave the history of the area and some facts about the mountains. Then, a ranger led us on a two mile round trip to Twin Falls. We also got to sample huckleberries along the way. In retrospect, we would not have needed to have a ranger led hike. The path to Twin Falls is well marked and not difficult at all, so we wouldn't hesitate to do it on our own if we were going again. I believe the boat trip was about $12.00, so it certainly was reasonable. Boat trips end at the end of August.

On our visit to Glacier National Park, we stayed in East Glacier and were recommended to take the short drive to Two-Medicine Lake on our first night there. We did, and it was so beautiful and peaceful that we repeated it on the second night. There is a picnic area--one of the few right on the lake that we found in Tetons, Yellowstone, or Glacier. There is also one of the best campgrounds we saw and an inexpensive boat trip acroos the lake that we did not have time to do as we went after dinner both nights. I am amazed so few visitors go here as we found it more to our liking than most of the more crowded sites.
