Nice drive all the way to West Yellowstone. Be aware that the ski and construction traffic is intense 7-9 am and 4-6 pm. When it snows it is a thrill a minute. Pull over if you are slow!!

Great place to get out of the car and take the dogs for a walk. Drive carefully and use the pullouts.

Scenic and beautiful drive. Pay attention to the road though! Early morning "traffic" You might also have big horn sheep on the road.

Drove through on our way to Yellowstone and were pleasantly surprised by the amount of animals we got to see and take photos of.

This is an absolutely beautiful route to take to big sky and/or Yellowstone. With the river running right beside the highway, there is always something beautiful to see including huge rock formations kayakers and fishermen on the river. We have hiked on several of the trails that are accessible by this highway, and they are just amazing. Storm Castle is awesome and so is the lava lake trail. If you have time while visiting Bozeman, be sure to take this route to big sky.

Lovely way to get to Yellowstone. The views are gorgeous, even in the winter. Would recommend the hour it takes to drive though.

A drive through the Gallatin Canyon is a must see for visiting Bozeman. The Gallatin River (one of the 3 forks of the great Missouri) starts as a meadow stream in Yellowstone National Park outside of West Yellowstone . It soon becomes a powerful plunging freestone river that cuts through the mountains on the way to the Gallatin Valley where it once again becomes a valley river. The road from Bozeman goes along the river to Big Sky ski resort (worth a drive through) all the way to West Yellowstone and the west entrance to the Park. Many of the fly fishing scenes from a River Runs through it were filmed on the Gallatin River and its tributaries.

My first drive through the Gallatin Canyon was on December 23, 2004. It had just snowed. The "Powder" was on all the trees. The rocks in the river were piled high with snow while water cascaded around them. The road was snowpacked. There were few cars going either way. It was my first memorable Montana experience. .Everything sparkled and glistened in the bright sunlight. The scene changed around every corner. There's so much to see, at any time of the year. That's a danger when driving through the Gallatin River canyon. If you want to enjoy it's beauty, pull off the road into campgrounds, on to turn outs or cross a bridge to the other side of the river. This road has two lanes and it winds through the canyon following the river.Follow the speed limit. Drivers must attention to oncoming traffic and the road conditions. I make this drive at all times of the year to see the river, it's fishermen, the rafters, the high rock walls, waterfalls, wildlife, and the mountain views near Big SKy. The experience feeds my soul,

Fantastic scenery for the hour and a half drive to the town of West Yellowstone. Nothing to dislike about this scenic drive.

Just south of Bozeman on Hwy 191 toward Yellowstone Park you'll travel through some of the most beautiful, mountainous terrain. Pass through Big Sky country - a short detour and down to the West Entrance to the Park.If you can spare the time, even if you don't go any farther than Big Sky, it is worth the trip. You'll find yourself pulling off the road many times for pictures and wildlife. Limited food options, so plan accordingly.

If you are heading to or from Yellowstone Park, try to drive the Gallatin Canyon between West Yellowstone and Bozeman. You won't be disappointed!. It's one of great 90 minutes drives in the USA!

The beauty of this river is only exceeded by the fishing that can be done on it. There are plenty of hungry trout in there, and they will rise to your fly. And the full length of it is a true gem. Go all the way.
