We love to stop in different breweries, especially our home state of Montana.This was our first time to this brewery and an excellent choice. I enjoyed the Highlander Scottish Ale and my husband had the IPA.The food and service upstairs were exceptional. After two long days of hiking this was a great respit to end our trip. I will make this a regular stop on my future trips to the area.

We stopped into the Great Northern Brewing Company and decided to sit at the small serving counter downstairs in the Black Star Draught house. It seemed to be very popular as there was a constant stream of patrons going up and down the stairs! There was a large group in the downstairs area too sitting on the sofa and bar stools.The guy who served us was very nice and knowledgeable about the various types of beer they brew and how they are made. Despite not being a beer-drinker myself, I decided to try a couple. It is nice to partake of locally-produced items that drive the economy of the places we visit.The bartender poured us small glasses of different beers on tap. I was impressed with the lightness and crispness of the Wild Huckleberry Wheat lager! This is clearly a ladies drink! If I lived here I might just develop a taste for this Huckleberry stuff!My husband tried Good Medicine, as well as Black Star, Going to the Sun IPA and Buckin’ Horse(what a name!). There were some souvenirs available like tees, cards and stickers. We also got some great deals in the sale box!After we left we realized that we never made it upstairs. Oh well, there's a good reason to return to Whitefish in the future!

We loved it. The building is really cool and the beers were good. Make sure you go upstairs to the gameroom in the warehouse.

A very nice light lager, not overpowering like many microbrews have become. I hope that it shows up on the east coast soon.

First of all let me state I am a beer geek and a beer tourist. I purposefully seek out places like this when I am on vacation so I am highly critical when it comes to my beers. In terms of the quality of the beers for fellow beer geeks, they are average to below average, though I suspect those people stopping in here that typically drink macro-lagers will find the beers to be quite approachable. Their strongest beer clocked in at just around 8% with most of their beers in the 4-6% range. And despite Great Northern/Black Stars location West of the Rockies, the hops are used with great restraint. That said, the atmosphere of the pub is pretty cool. Very laid back, welcoming, and friendly. There is a small downstairs bar and seating area (with plenty of schwag for sale) and a larger area upstairs with a small game room further in the back. The vibe is very inviting and it just feels like a good place to hang out and have a beer. Also, according to some of the earlier reviews, there was no food available. This appears to have changed recently, though what is on offer is limited: basically chips and salsa, a cured meats plate, and several sandwiches. Probably not the best place to go for dinner, but functional eats to accompany your beers.

Ask for a flight, it's a tasting of all their beer's for $9.50. So good! We shared one and i was feeling no pain and thought they all tasted great by the end of it. ;) Apparently they did have food there but that was not a focus.

The brewery is always on our radar list to share with friends. We love the sampler platter and love the huckleberry beer! No food here so come fed before you arrive.

Very Friendly - The veggie sandwich was the best vegetarian meal I have ever had. We had two couples and two kids ages 6 and 8 and they loved the root beer floats, with the root beer made on the premises. The Brews were excellent, and there was good variety. That would be my "local" if there was such a thing in Whitefish. I am partial to German style weiss beer, and their version was right on, and excellent. All the grown ups raved about the beer quality.

Great brewery right in town, great building design, right on the corner, amazing views of the Big Mountain, always a favorite.

When we think of breweries we thin beer and food. Not this place. It's strictly beer and beer snack foods. If we were sans kids it would be a great place to chill and enjoy a sunset from the balcony. My hubby did grab a beer while the kids played shuffleboard upstairs. It was a cool place and has some neat souveniers but definitely not a dinner destination as we hoped it would be.

We stopped here after a day at Glacier Park. My brother enjoyed the huckleberry wheat beer and our wives thought the root beer was very good. I had a beer sampler. My favorite was their IPA. Excellent! I've tried a lot of IPA's and this is one of the best. It all goes well with their wonderful chips and salsa. Then we headed down the road to The Shak for some no frills southern fried chicken and barbeque.

Stopped in as a couple for a couple beers close to closing time on a Saturday night, and really enjoyed it! A staff member gave us his take on the beers on tap at the time, and everything was delicious. No real food options, but it's a great spot to sit for a chat and some tasty beer.

We're big fans of microbreweries, so we were excited to try their beers. Downstairs you'll find a tiny gift shop and the bar is upstairs. It was quite busy so we sat at the bar and the bartender was friendly and we had great service. Try the stout and the imperial red ale - both are excellent. We were starving but the menu was a joke: nachos, chips and salsa, and....that's it. We left for food after a beer each.

I am a fan of micro breweries and always like to try local beers when I visit a new area. It was surprising to see that this brew pub had very limited food choices, but he beer was worth the visit anyway.
