This is a must do. Riding horses on a cattle ranch in Montana was on our bucket list during our recent visit to the region. Theresa and Sarah made our experience so much better (even with the slight hiccup of the stampeding livestock!) We highly recommend this as a true American experience.Kevin & Sandy Raby, Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia.

This was an incredible way to see the beautiful landscape of Montana. The horses were bombproof and Theresa was a very knowledgeable guide - a true cowgirl! She made everyone feel relaxed and was so easy to talk to. She was very aware to make sure the tack fit comfortably once the ride began and gave helpful hints along the way. I would highly recommend taking the time to experience riding with this outfitter!

Just spent an excellent afternoon on a trail ride at the Bitter Creek. Theresa was a wonderful host. The horses are well maintained and everything is just as you would expect from a well managed outfit such as this.We will return to check if Steve has remembered his Welsh alphabet!!!Alwena and Merfyn Tomos from Wales

Awesome service by the company. The horses were beautiful and very kind. The trail taken had amazing cliff views of the west and there was great history of the land. If we travel back to Billings, this would be the first thing we would do (again).

Passing through Billings. Found Bitter Creek on tripadvisor. Teresa did an excellent job of making us comfortable on the horses and as a guide along the scenic trail. Great views of the land. I would recommend calling or email for reservations. But sometimes she can fit people in like she did for us. September and October with cooler temps are my favorite time for this type of activity. Horses were excellent and I wouldn't be afraid to take my kids on them. Thank you Teresa for a great time.

Our trip to the Wild West took in Wyoming, South Dakota, Montana and Yellowstone. The time spent here was the highlight out of a trip of highlights. Why? Quite simply we had the chance to engage with the countryside on beautiful well-kept horses, take in the views and learn about the area with our fantastic guide and owner Theresa! Nothing was too much trouble from making sure we had the correct comfortable saddle to stopping so we could take photos along the trail. This is the real Montana and the only way to really see it. My day was complete when we met the rest of the family and especially Mr Kuhlman - a real cattle rancher! Don't miss out on seeing the lovely log homestead cabin. Our horses were amazing and we wanted to bring them home. If you do one thing in this area - this is it. Suitable for all the family riders or not.

I have gone horseback riding at Bitter Creek on 5 separate occasions mixing 1 hour rides with 2 hour rides. I have never gone the same way twice and the landscape is something to behold. It is all private land and quite an experience with the views of 5 mountain ranges and the rock formations on the property. The guide's knowledge of the habitat is outstanding since she was raised on her family's property. The horses used by the outfitters are good steady mounts and it's a favorite activity of my granddaughter on her annual visits from France. It is also reasonably priced.

I contacted Theresa via email to set up our trail ride, but I apparently forgot to ever respond in kind to her response to confirm the appointment. Even though she wasn't expecting us because I hadn't gotten back to her, she graciously took us out on a wonderful ride! The horses were just great, and the view was fantastic. Theresa was very knowledgeable about the area and was a terrific guide. We couldn't have been happier with our experience! Thank you so much, Theresa!

This review is long overdue, but better late then never! My friend and I made a cross country trip from the west coast to the east coast in the fall of 2012 (I selected July 2013 because that was as far back as the options were). We wanted to experience what this beautiful country had to offer. While we were in Billings we decided to go for a trail ride. I probably found Bitter Creek Outiftters through Google and I am very happy that I did. Because we were traveling in early November there many other tourists roaming around. Out 2hr trail ride was just myself, my friend, and our guide. From the beginning I liked the guide; especially because she gave us cowgirl hats so we really felt right at home. The horses also great, though mine had a mind of his own. The horses were gorgeous and very clean. Our guide was wonderful and really knew the land. She didn't seem to mind that we kept asking her to take pictures of us. On the way back to the ranch we went a different route and we saw one of their dogs chasing a rabbit (I think it was) and that was oddly enjoyable to see some of the wildlife. The last thing we did was ride through the fenced in area where the cows were eating. It sounds simple but it was great.Aside from the allergy attack I had the entire ride from the horses, it was a blast. She even hooked me up with some Benadryl when we got back. My friend and I both had such a great time and I recommend this place if you're in the market for a ride on a ranch.

I arrived in Billings and found out that "Custer's Last Stand Re-enactment" was to take place on Friday giving me an extra day in Billings. I searched trip adviser and found Bitter Creek Outfitters. I just drove a few miles out of town to the ranch and was on a horse within minutes, without a booking. It turned out to be the best thing I have ever done - thank you Theresa.

My wife and I arrived Billings Sunday night and sent an email to Bitter Creek Outfitters that evening asking if we could ride the next day, within 30 min. Teresa (owner of Bitter Creek) was in touch with us. Everything was ready to go for our ride the next day at 9 AM. Teresa made the ride worth ever penny. We certainly felt the service/adventure provided was well worth our time & money. Great horses were picked for us, (we are novice riders and 50ish), the views amazing, and Teresa's help and expertise a true joy. The experience of riding in the company of a young, personable, and enthusiastic cowgirl was the perfect combination. If you want to see a slice of Montana, ride with an authentic cowgirl, mount well cared for ranch horses, have the ranch dog run along the trail with you, and learn about a family cattle & horse ranch, .... Well, this is your chance.

We sincerely apologize for not getting back to you. I'm not sure what happened but obviously we dropped the ball. As was noted in our description, we were closed for the season, but now that we are open (and the weather much more pleasant) you are more than welcome to come out to see what we are all about!Sincerely,Theresa

Who doesn't want to go horseback riding when they are in Montana?! We found Bitter Creek Outfitters and couldn't be happier. We were able to spend an hour on the trail learning about the ranch and the local area with a great tour guide, Theresa. This was a definite highlight of the trip to Billings and I highly recommend this to anyone who is visiting town and for those who live there. The horses were all well behaved and made us feel comfortable and Theresa was engaging, interesting, friendly, and answered all of our questions. What a great experience!

Ever since I was small I have wanted to ride a horse in Injun' Country, and at last I've done it! Theresa was a lovely, lovely host, friendly, helpful and engaging. The views on the trail were outstanding and we rode at my pace of a beginner! The horse (Smokey) was docile and responsive and added to the wonderful experience. After the ride I left my camera at the ranch, and Theresa arranged for her Dad to bring it to my hotel in downtown Billings... how's that for service? . I really cannot speak highly enough of Bitter Creek Outfitters :)
