The trail is actually 26.2 miles from Elkins, WVV to Tucker County. More trail is coming: to the Rail Depot in Downtown Elkins . The trail is great for walking, biking, horse riding, and XC skiing. There are plenty of wildflowers to see and birds and the occasional rabbit. The terrain is mostly flat and is well cared for. There are "benches" here and there and trail guides are available.

After the first ten miles the trail appeared barely used and unmaintained; so we rode a round trip of 22 miles. No food or drink stops.

Natural and beautiful. A well-maintained trail, paved in some parts, gravel in others. Gives you a different perspective than you'll find driving in a car. Would love to explore more of WV Rail Trail. Bring bikes!

This section, 10 miles or so north out of Elkins is pretty urban/rural, not real picturesque and not the usual nice track of a gravel chipped rail trail. But not bad for a leisurely ride.

Black Mountain is a beautiful ride and well worth the trip. Good roads and easy to find and follow. Great photo ops. This is what I came to WV for.
