Beautiful place, we were just out sight seeing the water was so clear. We had not been able to walk out on a dam for many years and was surprised to be able to walk about a third of the way out.

A nice state park, basic - has cabins, lots of trees and green space; no organized activities in winter. has good trails. We've stayed in the cabins here for several years, for a family reunion. The cabins are basic, taken care of.

We have visited here often over the years. My husband and I have enjoyed many quiet evenings fishing in our boat on Bluestone Lake. He is a much better fisherman than I but I have caught crappie, bluegills and catfish. The park is beautiful with spectacular views of the mountains. We visit the outdoor pool at least a couple times each summer. When our daughter was younger, it was a weekly destination for us, along with neighbors and family. The pool is clean and the kiddie pool has a water fountain which our grandkids love. There is a snackbar at the pool where you can buy drinks and small snacks. We have camped at the campground many times and it was by far our favorite place to camp. The camping area for campers offers sites along the river as well as near the bath house. Most sites are shaded with large trees and moderately private. This park is quiet, clean and the scenery is beautiful.

We stayed in a 2BR cabin for 2 nights while attending a boating event at the lake nearby. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from the cabin and ended up being blown away by how nice it was! It was clean! I only saw 1 bug inside, despite being in the middle of nowhere. The kitchen was great, the beds were comfy. Plus it came with linens and towels! The fact that they had pet friendly cabins was awesome, too, since our dog came with us. I would highly recommend staying here and plan on doing so again.

Spent two night in 3 bedroom cabin and was very pleased how well maintained it was. Was not expecting the up to date kitchen and satellite tv. Hiking trails are well maintained and the pool and grounds well kept. Brett McMillan and his staff are great.

My family drove through Bluestone on our way from New River Gorge to Pipestem. The road winds back off of the main road, and you'll almost feel like you're lost. There is a small visitor's center, but it had just closed when we arrived. There are some nice views to take in, and there are places to picnic. I read about cabins available up the hillside, but we didn't drive up to see. It's a quaint park. Likely a good option for a less-crowded getaway.

Quick note: we did not stay, just played. This was another "needed" trip for our VIPP membership. The park is cozy and the lake is beautiful! We sat outside, shaded under some trees, and watched the boats cruise around.

Great trails and wondrous vistas abound. Spent a great amount of time admiring the autumn colors. The wildlife was amazing.

This is a visit to the spot where the Bluestone River flowing out of East River Mountain in Southwestern Virginia near the Tennessee Border joins up with the New River flowing from North Carolina near the Atlantic Ocean. The two waters meet in what is now the Bluestone Lake caused by the Bluestone Dam at Hinton, West Virginia. The New River flows on from here to later form the Kanawha where it meets the Gauley River at Gauley Bridge, West Virginia. Both these Atlantic Basin waters eventually end up in the Gulf of Mexico via the Kanawha, Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. It is truly a "rendezvous with destiny" here at Bluestone State Park near Hinton, West Virginia. Don't miss the views as they are spectacular. It truly is "Wild and Wonderful West Virginia!"

On the positive side the cabin was clean and the atmosphere of the park was nice. The Park office staff was nice and helpful. Renting a pontoon boat at the nearby marina was a highlight of our stay. However, the cabin is what ruined it for us. We stayed in cabin #4. The cabins are not air conditioned and I knew this prior to making the reservation. It was expectedly warm in the evenings with high 70's low 80's temperatures but the cabin had ceiling fans in each room which made the temperatures bearable as long as the air was moving. However every single window and door screen in the cabin had holes or was ripped on one side. We had a minimal number of lights on at night to try not to attract bugs. However, it was horrible. We were constantly being dive bombed by moths and flying bugs the first two evenings and on the third evening we lost electricity at 9:45 p.m. (there was no storm). At 12:30 a.m. we could not stand the heat, the dark, and bugs any longer. We packed by the lights of our cell phones and drove home.

The lake- formed by the dam, is awesome. Rent a fishing boat (seats 4) and go exploring. You can fish or go tubing as well. A great way to get up close and personal to this part of the state.

A good place to picnic and fish. Small enough to enjoy, large enough to be spread out from other people!

Bluestone park is tucked away in Southern West Virginia near a little town called Hinton. They offer a beautiful outdoor pool in the summer with breath taking views of the mountains. They have cute picnic areas and camping facilities. Pack a picnic and head to your local state park!

I am also a local person and I even live closer to Bellpoint park. However, I always go to Bluestone to let my lil one play at the playground. It is never packed and I can go anytime that I want. She can run and I do not have to worry about any other kids or dangers from cars or the river. Most of the time when we go we are the only people there playing on the swings. They have an outdoor pool that has been remodeled recently too and even installed a kiddie pool. The Cabins are very pretty inside with a TLR siding. The cabins are about the size of the typical house around the area with 2 bedrooms, bath, livingroom, and kitchen. The kitchen is large enough to put on a large dinner whereas most stoves and fridges are small or micro, these are all full size here. There is a laundromat at the end of the road where you can wash anything you need. The porches on the cabins are pretty large with 2 doors to access them. The cabins have a pretty rock fireplace in them too. I think that the linens are provided but I am not positive on that, so if you are planning on staying I would call to make sure since it has been over 4 years since I stayed in one. The cabins are not close together like a beach cabin. They make you feel like you have a house in a beautiful park of your own. If you call it rustic having to clean up after yourself and not being able to trash the place and wait on room service then the place is rustic, but if you have a hard time having to make your own bed then I want to say sorry. Sorry for the loss of arms because this place is nothing to complain about! Check it Out You WILL ENJOY IT!!
