This state park is fairly new so the accommodations & public equipment (playgrounds, restrooms, etc.) are still in great shape. They recently blacktopped a large portion of the roads, so the dust level is not bad at all. We stayed in Cabin #6 for a long weekend and had a great time. The appliances and AC were in excellent condition and everything worked properly. While the cabins do have the basic necessities, pots & pans, towels and such, it's still a good idea to bring extra trash bags, paper towels, paper plates and utensils, etc. An example is I wanted to grill some steaks on the pit outside, but there was not a single match in the cabin so I had to make a ten minute drive down the road to a small family-owned convenience store for various minor forgotten items. That is great little store, by the way. It's called Marsha's Corner Store and they are an old fashioned country store with a big selection of necessity items...from live fishing bait to fresh milk and eggs. They are located at the corner of Hwy 82 and Audubon Road.We brought our bikes and a canoe and had a great time. The park is quite spread out, so our bikes were great to have, unless you feel like driving or doing a lot of walking. There are a few alligators in the ponds but they don't bother anyone. They just seem to hang out by the picnic pavilions that are near the water...probably because they've been fed scraps by visitors over the years. We canoes the lakes and narrow bayous and had a great time. Even caught a few bream and small bass. Armadillos and various hawks and owls were plentiful, along with other wildlife normally found in this area. They also have a nice water playground but it was not open while we were there.Overall I was very pleased with this park and plan on going back many times in the future.

Who would have ever thought that a Louisiana state park could be so interesting, so clean and so inviting. I was blown away. Nestled along the banks of the Vermillion River, the park is lush and green and full of birds and wildlife. There are walking trails, canoes for rent, picnic tables and clean, very clean, bathrooms in several locations. The cabins are inviting and have meeting halls for corporate events. Why haven't we heard about this before??? Above all it is serene and relaxing - a get away from the hustle and bustle of "modern" life. Wish I could give it 6 stars! A $2 fee is waived if you are over 61.

If want to get back to nature, this is a good place to start. The Louisiana State Parks system has done a great job modernizing and updating the parks over the past dozen or so years. We drove through on a Saturday morning and found this place to be quiet, clean, convenient, and accessible (new, strong docks, walkways, ramps, etc).Do yourself a favor and go check these places out.

My wife and I recently spent 3 nights in the park. The cabin was spacious and comfortable. The kitchen was large and would be fantastic if you had a large family or multiple cooks trying to prepare meals. The park itself is isolated and the surrounding area is quiet except for the occasional boat moving along the river. Wonderful place to get away and relax.

This was a day trip with my husband & two teens. It's a 55 minute drive from where we live. It was easy to find & there are signs along the way to keep you on track. It was $2 per person to enter the park. There is a primitive site for tent camping, an RV park & boat launch. We were specifically going to the Splash Pad & trail areas, which is in the middle of the park. The parking lot was a nice size. Easy to navigate vehicles. We found a picnic table & ate lunch. Then we hit the trails. The trails are nicely kept & there was minimum litter. They were very easy to navigate. After walking the trails we enjoyed some time at the Splash Pad area. Surrounding this area is a Nature Center, which we didn't visit, but it looks large. There is also picnic pads with bbq pits scattered around & a small playground for little kids. There is a nice, long pergola area that offers shade & a fairly new bathhouse for changing & restroom needs. Obviously, the prime locations are first come, first serve around this busy area. So the RVers & Tent Campers have that advantage, but we did enjoy our time here. I've spoke with friends who RV there & they loved the experience & location. Especially for such an affordable price! A day, a weekend doesn't matter. This place is nice for any length excursion!

This is a first class State facility. Even though it was a holiday weekend, and the camp ground was full, there was a lot of space and quietness. The grounds are well laid out and are well kept. The recreational area was crowded but the grandkids still were able to enjoy both the splash pad and playground. We rode our bikes all around with no problems. The area was pretty quiet after 10 PM. This is our fourth time there and we have been pleased ever time.

This is a beautiful park. I have only gone to visit... there are many private camping areas for campers and motorhomes. There is a splash pad and several rental cabins. It is a beautiful natural area.

Maybe this place gets busy on the weekends or during the summer, but when we visited in October it wasn't at all. Stayed there twice on a road trip from California to New Orleans. We stopped in to camp overnight the first time because we couldn't find a spot to park our RV in Abbeville and it was getting dark. Came up from the coast and ran into some trouble with a closed bridge blocking our way up the road, but a helpful resident sent from God (who introduced himself as Gator and reminded me so much of my father) saved the day when he helped us with directions around the road closure. Loved our stay that night so much we made a point of stopping back in on the way home so we could spend more time. This park was immaculate. It's bathrooms and showers were well maintained and we were able to take advantage of the complimentary washers and dryers. Rent a canoe if you go there. We did and it was an adventure for this California girl. I'll never forget how beautiful and peaceful it was (except to argue about how to row). Hope to be able to stop by there again one day. Also, special thanks to Tal at the campground office. He was so helpful and we just loved him!

My wife and I had camped here before without any problems. However our most recent stay was ruined by the campers next to us that had no respect for other campers. First let me say the campground was packed with lots of families enjoying the nice weather. Traffic was very heavy with a lot of people driving around in cars and golf carts. I saw a very young park policeman drive by a few times always with his windows up and not looking around. The trouble started when we were awakend at 12:30AM by the people in the next campsight blasting their music so loud it sounded like it was inside our camper. The sheriff dept. finally showed up to quiet them down. I just cant beleive someone would be so rude as to crank the music up so loud at this time of night. I dont beleive we will ever go back.

I was there for a day hike in November. Arrived in late afternoon. I wish I'd rented a canoe, but not enough time. Well maintained. Lovely setting. Friendly staff.

Visited friends were were camping. Had two sites next to each other with Plenty of space between sites. Lots of room for the kids to wander around. Parking wasn't an issue like I expected. Will return. There are very Nice cabins if you are looking for one. We toured a cabin and were very impressed.

This park RV hookup and camps rental is in a secluded place a few miles south of down town Abbeville. There are trail routes, boat docks and the kids could get wet with water fall style system to cool off during those hot summer months. You are not from the Vermilion River. If your ever traveling to southwest Louisiana, please consider taking a trip there. You want be disappointed.

We were here in the winter, so had the park to ourselves for the most part. It's a huge beautiful park, with really nice facilities, a large visitors center, new cabins, etc. We saw plenty of wildlife, including wild boars and their babies. Would be a great spot for camping!
