We stopped off here on our way through DeQuincy as we had read that it was a good stop. Mary, who was in charge that day, was so very helpful and knowledgeable that she made our stop a delight, we were there for over an hour. Lots of interesting memorabilia, very worthwile stop and Mary made it all the more so as she was so friendly.

We visited the museum as part of the Louisiana Railroad Days Festival. As a host of the American Passenger Rail Heritage Foundaation's Let's Talk Trains podcast programs, I get to travel all over to many museums. The DeQunicy Railroad Museum is a fine example of what saving history is all about. The Museum is located in the former Kansas City Southern Depot. The museum has a wide variety items in it's collection. From hand tools, to rolling stock. It has on display, many, many items that I have never seen on display directly to the public view. The staff show it passion in assisting each and every visitor, even, on busy days such as Railroad Days. Very well. done, and we will be back in a couple of years.

Hubby and I decided to get away for a few days and visit the casinos in SW Louisiana. One can only talk the noise and smoke for so long. Had seen this small town museum before, but had never been inside. Decided this trip to take the time and have a look around. We were not disappointed. It was very charming and informative. They had some great displays of of items used in the heyday of train travel. Not only of passenger trains, but also cargo trains. We also had a museum employee give us information about the city and the history it has with trains. She was so friendly and helpful. Not too pushy were she was there for our every step, but was readily available if we had questions. We visited on a Tuesday morning and had the place to ourselves. Not only do they have displays inside of the old depot, they also have several engines and cars outside. You can't actually go inside of the cars, but you can't walk up and see the enormous size of them. The engines and cars are under a covered awning, So the summer sun won't be beating down on you. The outside grounds are very nice and well kept. Adjacent to the museum is a city park that is also nice. Would be a great place to let the little ones play.We only stayed for about an hour. Not a very large museum, but you can tell it is loved by its caretakers. So if you happen to be in the neighborhood, I would highly recommend stopping by and checking it outl

If you're interested in railroad memorabilia this museum is well worth a visit. There are a few really unique items, such as some interesting train orders which you won't see elsewhere. I was given a tour by Mary, the docent (?), who was very familiar with the contents of the museum, particularly those that relate to local history. I was the only visitor, so she spent a good deal of time explaining the displays. I enjoyed my visit.

DeQuincy is a small town based on the railroad. This museum is small but loaded with the history of the railroad and how it relates to the community.

Very interesting to learn of the railroad history in this part of the country. A LOT of displays of anything railroad related. Some original items in the train station.
