We were out looking for a place to eat that someone had told us about....and I spotted a brown sign for a historic home in the area along our way...and decided to see what it looked like..and then after seeing it decided to take the time to take the tour. It was the highlight of our time that day. The information given about the owners of the home and how it came to be as it was and how it was used by each of its owners is relayed to you by women from the local historic society. If you have an hour to spend.....it is well worth the trip and price of admission. If you do make the drive....be sure to have lunch just up the street at the TinTop.......

Wonderful plantation type home with wonderful antiques you can get up close to. Tour was by a volunteer and very informative. It took an hour or more and was only $5 per person admission.

A little off the beaten path but so worth the drive. Lovely home decorated with antiques from the original owners as well as the man who refurbished the home. Three tour guides show off different aspects of the home, complete with trivia, facts and interesting stories. At $5 for the tour - the best value in Alabama!

The Swift-Coles House is almost hidden away, but don't miss the chance to take the tour. The guides are knowledgeable and friendly, and the history of the house and Baldwin County are worth two hours of your time. Only open on Tuesdays and Fridays, admission is $5/person. Not only is the house quite lovely, the furniture supplied by the final owner, Nick Coles is astounding. The guides also know the area quite well, and can provide information about other places to visit, and where to eat.

Our ultimate goal was to find a place to buy seafood fresh off the boat. Once we turned on to CR-10 (not I-10), we began to see signs for this house. By God's grace, we were there on a Tue--which is one of the days they give the tour, Friday being the only other day. This is an example of a dogtrot house which has been modified through the years. If you appreciate history, architecture and antiques, try to fit this in! We loved it!

We were visiting Gulf Shores with my parents who enjoy visiting old homes, so we decided to visit this one that is close to where we stay. It was a very nice home with sweet guides. The home is full of history of the area, so is definitely worth a visit if you are interested in that kind of stuff. It has only been open to the public for about 4 years, so they are still accumulating some of the old pieces and bits of history that are attached.

Anyone in the Gulf Shores area should take the (short) drive to visit this house. The tour guides were so friendly and interesting. This was a nice break for us during our winter vacation - it was well worth the time spent. There is a nominal $5 fee and it was worth it.

Beautiful historic antebellum-style home on the Bon Secour River; deeded to the Baldwin County Historical Society and open for tours. During December, decorated for Christmas from that time period.
