Gives you a view into Mobile's past, tells of the early French explorers that led to exploration of the countryside and the discovery of the Mississippi River.

We found this to be very enjoyable and informative. For a local museum there is a lot of information on the history of Mobile. It is a great way to spend and hour or two and it is free. I would highly recommend it.

Free parking is a half block away across from the Fort. Located in the old city hall building has provided a very good use for this historic building. The directional signage once you start the tour of the building could be improved. It is easy to enter a room from what should be an exit and not realize immediately that you are viewing the exhibit in reverse. Mobile has a rich and interesting history.. This is well worth the time to visit and is so well done!

Wow! What a delightful and engaging experience. Interactive exhibits, jaw dropping period furniture, volumes of historical data and artifacts. Best of all, it's free. Well worth the trip. Include this on your Mobile visit.

Superb local history museum well above what you might expect from a city the size of Mobile. In a gorgeous period building (the ante-bellum City Hall and City Market) with a remarkable range in their collection.Free admission!

We enjoyed learning the history of the area. A lot to see in this museum. Plan for at least two hours if you enjoy reading the displays.

The history museum is across the street from the Fort making it very easy to visit both. Lots of historical information about Mobile, life there as well as slavery. I would allow 1 to 2 hours to visit.

This was recommended and we were fortunate to hit the free day. The exhibits were typical of a museum and we learned a bit about Mobile and its history. An enjoyable visit.

This place is packed full of local history and artifacts. And as of now it has free admission, so you can't go wrong visiting this museum.

This it a nice museum not overly large, the exhibits are really nicely done there were not many people the day we were there so it made me very relaxing to go around.

We both really enjoyed this museum. A lot to see and everything very well displayed. We were there so long it actually closed! There was no one else there in the museum when we visited which is a great shame as it is such a great place to visit and be informed of the controversial history of Mobile.

Nice free museum to visit and get the history of Mobile. Interesting learning new things about places you thought you knew.

It is free to go in. They have it split into sections. You can see it all in a couple hours.. or split it up into a few visits. I believe it is closed Mondays. But tue-sat 9am -5pm/ and sunday 1pm to 5pm. They have set it up very nicely with plenty of room to move about the exhibits. Even if this place was full of people you would still feel comfortable going at your own pace. If I was to say anything bad about it .. It could use a Gift Shop to help generate some funds. There is a guestbook they ask you to sign. My friend and I are CND and found it kinda funny that it had a column for "race".. not something we run across where we are from. Funny part was.. we had to ask if we should put "W" or "C". Not sure why they need the info.. but I am sure Everyone finds something of their interest at this museum. OH! and the building itself is LOVELY! I very much enjoyed the lobby. There are letter size maps (you return) they can give you to wander museum with.. but the place is small enough that I am sure you can't get too lost.

The new exhibit "Ark of India" is a stunning look at late 19th century India as seen through the eyes of artist Roderick MacKenzie. Wanting everyone in the Gulf Coast area to experience this Mobile-India connection, the Mayor of Mobile has waived the admission fee.
