We were in staying in Denali for a couple days and I set up a trip with Casey for an evening fishing trip. He arrived at our hotel promptly and we were off to Cantwell which is about 15 minutes south of Denali.I chose fly fishing but they also have spinning reel gear available as well. If you are new to fly fishing, Casey is very experienced and can help you learn. The spring was a little late this year, so we still had some ice on the water but there was plenty of water to fish.I was quickly onto fish with Casey’s fly choice and landed several average sized grayling within minutes of wetting a line. We moved to another area and started getting into the rainbow trout. They were hitting better on the spinning gear with jigs and it wasn’t long before I landed a 5 pounder after an exciting fight on the light gear. Before the long day was done, I had landed 10 or so rainbows in the 3.5 to 5 pound range and several 1 to 2 pound graylings. My wife accompanied me on the trip as a photographer, but she spent a lot of time in this neat little one-room cabin next to the water making sure the stove was hot. Casey made us coffee and I would go inside to warm up every so often. After fishing, Casey knew I was interested in photographing wildlife so he drove us to areas where we could see them. It really reminded me of hanging out with a friend back home. We had a great day and I highly recommend booking a trip with him. Compared to other fishing trips that I researched, the amount of time fishing plus a personal guide and the quality of the water being fished, this trip is one of the best values out there.
