This was a neat little afternoon trip from Girdwood. The walk is on comfortable gravel trails and very little if any incline. The glacier is beautiful on a sunny day. You can walk right up to it and climb around. Not a place you could do all day unless you were hiking further up the glacier. Some cool creeks to look at in the park also.

You'll have to park and hike maybe half a mile to see this glacier, but it's neat because you get the frontal view and then you can walk around/on it. Usually, there is a cool cavern right at the mouth for a photo-opportunity.

This is a small and easy trail that leads you to a magnificent view of the Byron glacier! You can go beyond the trail to get closer to he glacier, but you will have to climb up rocks and small boulders. It is definitely worth it though - especially for the view of the valley behind from atop the rocks. I will never forget the stunning view of the glacier or the valley!! I highly recommend this, especially considering the minimal effort involved.

Great trail, make noise though because of wildlife (bears and moose). The trail brings you right up to Byron Glacier--well worth a trip for those who aren't familiar with Alaska or what to feel the chill from old ice.

This is a really easy dayhike to a scenic moraine. When we did it in August there was no snow left and you can't really access the glacier, but the hike is so pleasant and easy that everyone should at least give it a try.

Find the trailhead on the side road to Whittier from Route 1. We found it by accident after turning off the main road. Its a 45 minute walk on a paved level path, but the walk is the best part as you walk into the wilderness (not really because you don't leave the trail). We walked for 20 minutes before we meet a family leaving. This helped with my wife and daughter who were beginning to worry about bears and wandering too far in. Not saying you don't respect any bears because you should but the walk is what I found the best way to approach the prize of the glacier just ahead. Obviously you stand only on the edge and the photo of you and the glacier lasts forever. We still talk about this walk as their "scariest" and I chuckle because it was a pretty easy walk and dad protected them on the trail!

This place is a hidden gem. If you would like to actually get on a glacier, touch it, or walk on it, this is for you. We hiked for about 2 to 3 hours here. It was well worth it. It was fun jumping across the stones in the river. We even got to touch the glacier, you just don't realize how massive the structure is.

We stopped on our way down to Seward from Anchorage. It's an easy hike to this accessible glacier and lots of fun to walk on it, take some fun pictures and sit a while and enjoy it. Don't miss it.

Very easy, level hike to the glacier. Beautiful views along the way and at the glacier. Definitely recommend for all ability levels.

We could actually go and walk on the glacier, sit on the glacier and have loads of fun. The hike is pretty easy and no sweat! Highly recommended.

We did this on our Cook Inlet drive and really enjoyed the experience of being able to walk on a glacier. The path to it was of a very high standard and accessibility was very easy. Really fun and beautiful colours on the glacier.

Beautiful glacier and fun to play on. Easy walk. Sad to see how much the glacier has receded in the past few years. Powerful display of Gods handiwork!

An easily accessible gravel trail takes you close to a glacier where you can climb on rocks to get an even closer look. The wildflowers blooming along the trail were gorgeous. Very scenic, even on a rainy day.

The trail is well maintained and is an easy walk. The last area has rocks if you want to get closer - which we did. Beautiful view of the glacier.
