Great way to experience Kennicott and the glaciers. Very well informed and friendly guides. Definitely recommend them!

We spent an incredible day hiking on the Root glacier. The weather was crystal clear and the glacier was beautiful. We purchased the full day hike with a private guide. There were 4 in our group and we were all 60+ years of age. We wanted to go at a slower pace and didn't want a group to have to slow down for us. Our guide was Dave. What a gem he is. He was very friendly and gave us a lot of information on the history and geology of the area. We saw some beautiful waterfalls. The color of the ice is incredible. I think that there is something different to see every day, because the glacier is always changing. We had our lunch at the most incredible place on the glacier. Dave showed us a spot where the water is actually coming up in a pool (instead of falling downhill). I would definitely take a full day hike and hire a private guide. Then you can do it all at your pace. If you have come all the way to Alaska, take the full day hike. When are you going to ever do this again? If I can hike all day with my bad knees, then most anyone can. When we show our friends at home pictures of the glacier hike - they are amazed. The colors, the size, the history are hard to comprehend. Don't miss this trip. If Dave's job in the real world is teaching school, and he taught this group of 4 a lot about glaciers and hiking on ice. We loved it.

We had a great time with Kennicot Wilderness Guides. I was having a hard time planning our trip to wrangell st. elias NP because we hadjust gotten our puppy and he was still too little for us to leave for a weekend trip. We were going with friends who wanted to do a guided trek of the glacier and since they arent from alaska, we wanted them to be able to enjoy their trip. The other tour company didnt allow dogs to go on their trips, so i was having a really hard time trying to figure outwhat we were going to do. Then i found kennicott wilderness guides and noticed they offered private trips for only about 5$ more than the other company. I noticed they had a picture of a dog on the glacier on their website, so i took a chance and asked if we could bring our puppy on our tour (it might seem like aa weird thing to do, but alaska is pretty dog friendly). They said we could definitely bring him especially since we were in a private group, I was ecstatic!! We had an awesome time on our tour, our guide was really friendly and had great energy. Our puppy probablyhad more fun than we did running around on the ice and walking with the big dogs thatalso got to come from the town of kennicott. A great trip, i definitely recommend this company and they do a ton of other trips that look like amazing adventures.

I did enjoy the trip with Kennicott Wilderness Guides. The guide, Ryan, was very patient. My friends and I felt comfortable with the ice hiking and learned something else which was not found in the textbooks during the trip.

One of my favorite AK adventures! Thank you Spencer for being such a stand out guide! We were a group of 3 travel nurses and had a blast exploring the glacier. Waterfalls, carved walls, morraines, moullans (sp?), nooks and crannies! Spencer was very knowledgeable and gave us interesting information about glaciers, the Wrangles, and history of the area. Plan to come back and be "real" members of the Root Glacier Swim Team and do a proper polar plunge! ;) Thanks again, Spencer for an incredible day!

Kennicott Wilderness Guides were amazing on our recent trip to Kennicott. They were all so friendly and helpful. Neither me nor my son had ever worn cramp-ons before. They got us both outfitted and made our glacier hike safe and memorable! Our guide was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot about the area. Once on the glacier, our guide knew all the cool places to check out. Because we were a small group, we got to go places most big groups don't get to. It was spectacular and a trip we will never forget. I highly recommend Kennicott Wilderness Guides. I trusted the safety of my son (age 11) and myself and I was not disappointed. They were genuine, professional and fun!

We had a full day glacier hike. It was a great experience. We hiked through a magnificent changing landscape. Jesse, our very experienced guide, was full of details and interesting information about glacier, animals, plants, history of the mine... and always careful to understand the requests of the group. It was only the beginning to explore this wonderful park. I hope to come back with more time available.

We worked with Jared, one of the guides at KWG, to plan a backpacking trip and had an amazing experience. Jared was incredibly generous with his time and advice. I highly recommend the area and KWG to make your trip a complete success.

My husband and I had 3 hours hiking on the glacier. Our guide was Anna. It was only the two of us.The entire experience was great. From the moment we were brought from the airport to the offices, through the office papers we had to fill, the introduction with our guide, everything went smooth and pleasant. Our guide was Anna, she was really really great. It was only the two of us and Anna. We were really lucky.Anna was patient, intelligent, communicative, carrying, knowledgable, responsible (took excellent care of us and ensure no accident will happen).Lunch on the glacier was nice and quite good. Anna even had hot chocolate for us that she prepared on the glacier.Great adventure and most recommended.

Fabulous day hike on the Glacier with Monty and the dogs Shoshana and Doc. Monty is very experienced and provided historical background of the area. Will be one of my favorite memories of Alaska.

I've done A LOT of backpacking and guided outdoor trips over the years. But for what we sought - an epic week of backpacking and exploring Alaskan wilderness - Kennicott Wilderness Guides exceeded our expectations in every respect, starting with the planning. Jared (one of the owners) really took the time to understand what my friend and I wanted to accomplish, and put together a really creative itinerary that took our experience into consideration and challenged us accordingly. The route itself was absolutely phenomenal, starting with an exhilarating bush flight to Skolai Pass, the 4 days of backpacking up the Fredericka Glacier, over a pass to camp in some high alpine tundra, and then across several massive glaciers to Nizina Glacier Lake. Then after all that, 2 days of paddling in the lake and down the Nizina River. Our guide for the trip was phenomenal, demonstrating a deep knowledge in terms of navigating this rugged wilderness, and also just being a fun part of the team.I could go on and on in detail, but overall I highly recommend KWG.

We (a family with two younger boys) did a glacier day hike and a four day backpack with Monte from KWG. The experience was excellent from beginning to end. Jared handled my my initial trip planning calls, made sure that KWG understood the capabilities of our group and crafted a trip that would be a suitable adventure for us. Monte led our backpack and it was a delight to spend four days in the mountains with him. He combines infectious love for the wilderness and adventure with careful judgment and expertise. He is a great story teller and tremendous fun to be with. Our four day trip was from Allie's Valley to Bremner Mine. Beautiful country with just the right degree of challenge for our family. The KWG team is led and owned by professionals with long-term deep local roots in the park. If you want to get into the Wrangell-St Elias wilderness but are not sure where or how, I highly recommend planning a trip with KWG.
