What an incredible time we had on our half-day hike to Root Glacier with McKinley and Terrell. They were very friendly, competent, and fun guides for our whole family! What a gem of a place that was made even more exceptional with the great staff and wonderful hospitality! We'll definitely return! Thank you!

This adventure was truely a highlight of our trip! Our guides Logan and Killian made the day for us with their enthusiasm and knowledge! The trip out to Kennicott/McCarthy is an adventure in itself, but once you get there you quickly realize why people choose to be there. This is real Alaskan history! When we return to Alaska (don't know when) we will be visiting Wild Alpine again!Thank you all for the experience!

We absolutely loved this wonderful summer day in Alaska. Thanks McKinley and Maren for the professional introduction to walking with crampons, the stunning hike to and on the glacier, and the great time we had with you guys!We only regret not having spent more time in Kennecott. Next time we'll sign up for the ice climbing trip.

One of the greatest adventures of all time. Safe, price friendly, and amazing staff! Spent all day out on the glacier and did multiple climbs (thanks to Dasan). Thanks so much and I cannot wait to come back! Loved everything about it!

We headed to the Wrangell with no real agenda in mind. We stopped in to the Wild Alpine Guide outfit in McCarthy and bumped into Logan and McKenzie who showed us pictures of a potential Ice Climbing adventure we could have on the Root Glacier. That day the weather was pretty raining and Logan said wait until Monday. So we did. On Monday we met our guides Dasan and Killian. The weather was cloudy. Our guides told us about the Glaciers in the area, about why the ice is blue and gave us a really great overview of the area. I had never rock climbed let alone ice climbed before. So, I was a bit nervous, but our guides were so confident and reassuring. They helped me break through my mental barriers by being encouraging, but not letting me give up right off the bat. The day was gorgeous, we were surrounded by clouds but no rain. This experience left me in awe. It definitely gave me the confidence to try new things and the people I met I will always remember.

Thanks for this great review Chris! We had so much fun exploring Lake Clark National Park with you and the family. Hope to cross paths with you again before too long. High fives all around!
HKTGraphics
Thanks for the review HKTGraphics, you two crushed it out there! And thanks for the tip regarding the daypack, great suggestion. A 35L pack, or something close to that volume, is perfect for carrying extra layers, water bottle, crampons, camera, and lunch on this full day adventure. We'd love to see you out here again, so give a shout if you're headed back this way!

You're right, Jennifer C, the McCarthy Road isn't nearly as dreadful as it's been in the past. DOT crews have been hard at work this summer improving the road surface and brushing along the sides to widen and improve visibility at the curves. And the views!! Nonethless, we agree that 4WD and a spare are definitely still good ideas. I'm glad you made the drive too, and especially that you found our tour worth the adventure. Thanks for choosing Wild Alpine!
BeckiandJD
Thanks so much for the review, BeckiandJD! Wild Alpine specializes in small groups and custom tours, so it was natural and we were happy to accommodate your schedule. Killian is a solid guide, it's so great to hear he helped you make the most of your time in the Copper Valley! Good luck, and keep having fun!!

YEAH QUINN!! High five, buddy! Way to go making the most of your solo adventures here in AK. It was so much fun getting to know you a little bit, hopefully there's more of that in the future! Keep in touch, we'd definitely love to know if / when you're back in the area. Get that bro of yours to keep you climbing, too!

The guides with Wild Alpine are very helpful and engaged. I took a tour on the Root Glacier and valued the experience. I highly recommend Wild Alpine.

Thanks for all the feedback, Alison W. Your two guides, Ed and SamJ, are quite the pair! Ed works for Wild Alpine year round, guiding Intro to Winter Ice Climbing trips in the Chugach Mountains as well. So when you're ready to take on AK in December, let us know ;) We like the small groups too, works out great for everyone keeping the dynamics mellow while maximizing your time on the ice and exposure to learning opportunities with your guides. Glad you like our style, we'll keep it going for sure!
