In fairness to the "terrible" review on this place, it is not the trails that are terrible. Wolf Pen Gap Trails is a network of trails that go all over the national forest around Mena, AR and there are several campgrounds that serve this area. The complaint about the rickety bridge is actually a complaint about only one of the campgrounds in the area (Wolf Pen ATV Campground 559 Polk 61.) I agree that the management of this campground is pretty bad and I base that opinion on the experience that my cousin recently had at that same campground. It's a real shame that a few people can have such a negative impact on such a wonderful and beautiful place, but there are lots of campgrounds, so lots of options. I know my cousin will never stay at Wolf Pen ATV Campground again, but there is another campground with WIFI and lots of local knowledge about the area less than a mile away so maybe that one will be better.

Website gives good directions on how to get there. The trails are marked but many signs are missing. Follow the blazes on the trees. Download your map before you leave or take a photo of the one on the board at the trail head as there were no printed copies available. The trails were well maintained though not very challenging as we were on dual sport motorcycles that we rode from the state park where we were camping. Some of the 'trails' are county / forest service roads so it is easy to take a wrong turn and end up miles out of the dedicated riding area. It was fun exploring the area and seems like a popular spot for families. As always call the US Forest Service in the area to make sure the trails are open. They had just re-opened them when we got there from heavy rains the week before.

The trails are well kept and clean. Numerous streams and creeks add interest and lovely stopping points. Trails are well marked. Saturday can be crowded so opt for a weekday to avoid the crowd. Must see the Two footed Oak and the forgotten mine!

What are you looking for in an ATV/UTV trip? If it's sun and big rocks, go to Moab. If it's vertical inclines that can test your roll cage... not here. Me - I like meandering trails, shady trees, trails, streams, mud, whoop-de-doos, and a touch of navigational adventure. For these things, Wolf Pen Gap Trail has it all. Maps of the park are not easy to find. The National Forest Service located about a mile outside Mena on the road to Queen Wilhelmina, stocks rudimentary maps of the park that can be helpful when you are inclined to assume that "Loop 6" means the trail comes back to where it starts - Not so. In fact, Loop 6 takes you clear to the other side of the park. Exploring the trails throughout Wolf Pen Gap can provide several days of entertainment so plan to stay awhile. For a nice, rustic but well manicured campground with ample washroom facilities, sites with or without hook-ups, and very reasonable fees, try the Christian Motorcyclists Association Iron Mountain campground between Mena and Hatfield.

We always love to visit here with our friends and family. Can never cross too many creeks and there are so many trails just waiting to be conquered. Albert Pike is also a great place to hike, fish or camp that is nearby. Must go see Lil Missouri Falls also. Beautiful waterfall depending on the time of year how fast the current is.

After driving 10 long hours to get there, we arrived only to find that in order to access the place, you have to drive over a very small, very narrow, sad looking wooden bridge that has a weight limit far below what we weighed, or drive through a 2' deep stream. We were shocked! We called the mgmt only to be told that the weight limit that is posted on the sign is just "suggested weight" (well then why post that weight??), and we SHOULD be fine. Well, no offense, but I wouldn't even think of driving our decked out dually truck, fully loaded 43' toy hauler (which included our 4 seater RZR) across that thing, much less with reading that we exceeded the weight of what is posted. So, granted it was our call to leave, scramble to find someplace else, and drive another 2 hours to get there, but when they charged us for our stay in full, I was FURIOUS! That is no way to do business. You should warn people what to expect, and understand that if someone does not feel comfortable putting $150,000 risk up to cross that rickety bridge. Shame on you for charging us for our full stay.

Wife and I go with friends 2 to 3 times a year, have been for 15 years, always have a great time. We usually stay in cabins near the trail heads. This is one of the best trail systems we have ridden, they are well marked and maintained.

We loved it. Animals were everywhere. The creeks and streams were beautiful. The mountain was exhilarating. Restrooms. Picnic areas. Trails rated easy to hard. We are coming back soon. http://www.ouachitaatvadventures.com/Trails/WolfPenGap/wolf_pen_gap_.pdf

We ride at Wolf Pen Gap at least twice a year and always enjoy it. Trails are clearly marked, clean and easily accesible from many of the surrounding cabins.

Very well marked trails, and lots to see. Not much traffic on the trails either. The amount of streams and creeks we crossed surprised me. Lots of places to drive on a utv. fun!

Beautiful! Good for dual sport but a car works too. Nice easy hike and picnic area. Great photo op. We saw deer and owls but no bear :-)! Beautiful drive to get there. Looks like good hiking as we'll from the Trails.

My entire family went on a ATV trip through western Arkansas and our first stop was in Mena. We rode the entire day at wolf pin and had a blast. The price was good and the navigability of the trails were fairly simple by he scenery up there is just gorgeous. Definitely will return.
