copicut woods

I have been doing extensive biking through all the local forests and parks... The Copicut Woods have a few decent paths, but in comparison to others that are very close by, it doesn't measure up well. There is ONE decent scenic area i have found, and that is a small portion of land that overlooks the Copicut Reservoir. Very pretty, but a REAL pain to get to. I would suggest the paths in the Fall River/Freetown State forest.

My handful of experiences in Copicut have been very peaceful and very satisfying. The trails are scenic; walking by and around the old stone fences give these woods a historic feel. There are many swampy parts, but the wildlife and the scenery make a hike here feel more lively compared to many other parks and trails in this part of the state. If you're an avid hiker like myself, Copicut Woods will easily become your favorite in southeastern mass.

My husband and I have been to a few of the Trustees sites and have been impressed with them. Copicut Woods only strengthens this opinion. The trails are maintained, well marked and pristine. We printed off a map before we got there, but amazingly there were maps at the trail head. There are many trails to hike, enabling you to go for any length of distance or time.The highlights of the trail are the impressive rock walls throughout the property. Some are made with very large boulders and over streams there are rock bridges with surprising creativity. There are two old homestead sites where you can see old house/barn foundations made of stone.Be sure to visit the old Wilson Cemetary which is slightly separate from the main trail. This is straight out of a horror move. The entire cemetary is covered with creeping myrtle and lilies of the valley.We walked for about 1 hour and did not see one person, so you really feel isolated with nature, and the best part it's free.
