We went here on a weekday and had a nice time with our five year old. There was a sheet given out for kids where they had to look for objects in the paintings found in each room which kept our son entertained. I would recommend this museum to anyone who wanted to visit a nice art museum, whether they had kids or not.

It's free! A little of everything, well lighted, nice staff to answer questions. Would be an ok place to brings kids to to show them the different kinds of art.

Not only does the college art museum have an excellent permanent collection, but also it has wonderful changing exhibits throughout the year. It is always an interesting place to visit-a real treasure in the Pioneer Valley.

This museum is absolutely worth traveling to. The permanent collection includes some breathtaking works from a wide variety of eras. Temporary exhibits are top-quality: when we visited there was a beautiful exhibit of Matisse drawings curated by (and including some works by) Ellsworth Kelly. Plus, you get to sit on priceless George Nakashima benches while gazing at paintings :)

We weren't expecting much from this small museum, but it blew our expectations out of the water. The artwork was fascinating, especially the ancient works (Egyptians, Romans, etc.). You'll only spend about 30 minutes to an hour in here, so it's great for a quick stop.

They have a lot of traveling exhibitions and a solid main collection, but as other reviewers have said the museum is rather small. The El Anatsui exhibition is great, though, so I'd see if it you haven't already. Also be sure to check out the Skinner museum down the road, which is like an old fashioned curio cabinet exploded all over the place.

The permanent collection on exhibition is small, as others have mentioned, but it is a perfect museum to take the time to really look at a few pieces for a while. The day we visited the docent or guard was a bit more interactive than I prefer - following very closely room to room and offering opinions about pieces. It was well-intended enthusiasm but after a while in such a small space it became distracting. The Anatsui exhibition currently up was incredible and absolutely made the visit for us.

We had a wonderful time visiting the Talcott Greenhouse. Its location directly next to the Mount Holyoke College Art Museum makes it easy to combine both in one visit. It is free and open seven days a week. There is a nice variety of plants and a small aquatic feature with fish which is sure to capture the interest of children. It was built in the 1890s and the structure itself is very lovely. It is accessible if you have a cane but I'm not sure about a wheelchair so it would probably be best to call ahead and ask them. A welcome and warm respite from the New England winter!

The Mt. Holyoke College art museum is a nice little place but does not compare well to the ones at Amherst College or Smith College. If one had time for all three, I would put it third on the list, depending of course on what is being exhibited and one's taste. Like Amherst, it is free; the much larger Smith museum has a modest charge.

A visit here will warm your heart for awhile. We have enjoyed it multiple times. But, while you're there, enjoy the shady campus. And, cross the street for something to eat and a good indie bookstore. Nice, easy afternoon treat.

I describe our visit to the MHCAM as much like a fine tasting menu - every morsel was exquisite! We were there to see the Kara Walker Harper Civil War Prints, but were delighted by the little meso-american pottery room as well as the tragic poet's collection from Pompeii... every piece of art we saw was in some way perfect for the setting and the collection. Will return again!

The art museum on the grounds of Mt Holyoke College is a little gem. The collection is quite impressive, including Egyptian, Roman and other ancient works, Medieval and Renaissance art, Dutch, Asian, Pre-Columbian and Native American (and others). There is also an excellent photography collection. The ground of Mt. H are lovely. This museum is a real bonus.
