This cemetery is full of history --- and it is gorgeous. Yes, it is a cemetery, but the landscape is full of rolling hills, not all "flat" like some places. The number of folks that walk here will surprise you! Try attending some of their "tours" --- very interesting!

Even when accessing the Edson cemetery I was impressed by the old grave stones. The calm and the similarity of the structure accompanied me on the way to the grave of Jack. Visiting the cemetery will stay with me for a long time.

The Lowell Cemetery is a garden style cemetery designed similarly to the Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA. The current supervisor has improved the appearance of the cemetery through numerous bulb plantings, careful shrub pruning, tree identification tags, and general trimming. The gentle hills capture the sun's inviting rays and augment the beauty of the upright head stones and sculptures. Hedges form natural borders to family sections. Several times a year, a local historian, Richard Howe Jr., conducts informative tours of those resting here. One can imagine the Sunday family picnics held during the 19th century as relatives of the deceased gathered to share time with those who preceded them to the afterlife and stare in awe at the extraordinary Ayer lion. The Greeks wrote glowingly of the Elysian Fields as Lowellians proudly stroll the beautiful Lowell Cemetery.

This cemetery has long been a peaceful and beautiful place to walk and enjoy nature as well as revere the dead. There are many sprawling hills and well worn paths to showcase the impressive mausoleums and interesting statuary. Around every corner there are interesting stone dedications in the form of angels, lions, Greco-Roman style sentinals, and other various personal touches. You will also find a variety of beautiful trees, that are labeled with their species if that interests you. Perfect place for a long walk or a long think.

A piece of history that is still being utilized today. This started as a Victorian era cemetery and has some unique grave markings....my favorites are the large carved lion, the chair with the book open on it and the man buried with his three wives. A wonderful walk (or drive) through a pleasant place.
