I am a Roman Catholic. Attending Mass here was an inspiring experience. I enjoyed the sermon (homily), the music, the scripture readings, and participating in the sacrament of the Eucharist. The church has an exceptionally good sounding organ from the Casavant Brothers company, which was very well played. The volunteer choir also sounds very good. When Mass is not being held, it would also be a good place for general tourism. The interior of the church is exceptionally well decorated.

I grew up in New Bedford, you would think I would have visited this church at least once. It really is amazing. I felt bad I spent more time looking at the church than paying attention to the Mass. You really don't know what to look at first: the ceiling, the altar, the Stations of the Cross, the stained glass windows etc.. A definite must see you won't be disappointed.

This magnificent church is the most beautiful church in the New Bedford area...if you only have time to visit one church please make it this one!

St Anthony's is a massive church that is beautiful to visit. Over the school year they offer a monthly concert played on their classic organ, free with a "free-will offering."

I grew up in this parish, and went to their School. I did all my Sacraments, and even Married here. No other place compares, because the Church is so beautiful. My children were baptized here, but as the yrs went by, we moved out of district, and registered to a different Church to give it a try for a yr or 2, it didn't live up the standards I was used to, so we registerd back to St. Anthony. This church is beautiful to me, it's what I'm used too. It may look dark and dungy on the outside, you have to go inside to see the full beauty. I remember on certain holidays, they would light up the church during Communion, that was a treat. We had relatives who would come from out of town, just to see the Church lite up! Between the singing, and the lighting, it always took my breath away, and made me tear up,especially the Christmas Mass....that's how beautiful it is! Plus the Organists during my time there, Mr. Labens (The best)...and David Langevin, were exceptional!

One of the most beautiful churches I have ever seen! I have been to many of the older churches in the US and Europe. Highly recommend visiting this one.

This parish Church is a museum in itself. It is easy to become mesmerized by this all-encompassing beauty.

I was raised Catholic and St. Anthony's was my parish church so I am well qualified to expound on its virtues. The steeple is one of the tallest objects in the city and can be seen from quite a distance. The church is of Gothic design and is about 100 years old. Another reviewer said the outside was dirty but that is an error. What might to some look dirty is actually the color of the stones used to build the church. The interior is awe inspiring given the magnitude of the building, the statuary, the painted ceiling ( similar to but on a lesser scale than St. Peter's in Rome, Italy. ) When all the church lights are lit, the sight of it is fantastic. Unfortunately, this doesn't happen as much as when I was younger due to electricity costs. Anyone who enjoysgreat edifices will not regret a visit to one of the best churches in the entire state.

I went to st anthony's school for 8 years, sang in the choir, just walking up the steps to the choir loft, and seeing a very large organ, which fill the church with music, this has to be the best, beautiful, building of a church, this church has charm, no matter where you look, you see painted ceilings, the stations of the cross, look like marble, it is truly beautiful.

We attended a Messiah concert and the setting was perfect.. Beautiful singing and the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra performed... You can search on google and see the interior worth of a visit!

Have been to hear the Messiah sung here 3 years in a row and it is a wonderful experience. The church is very unusual- the lighting is a bit carnival like but that just adds to the charm. Definitely wortha vist but best for a concert.

Awesome in more ways than one! Whether religious or not, you must visit the beauty and architecture of this spectacular Catholic Church. It is like being in Rome or another European city. And one visit is not enough. Each time you visit you will be mesmerized by the amazing architectural detail and will see something you did not see on a previous visit.Periodically concerts are held and when the organ begins to play the goosebumps appear! This must be what Heaven is like!
