Structure suffered in a fire years ago, and has been closed ever since. Between all the deficiencies that need to be taken care of and the lack of aggressive action from city leaders, we begin to doubt that the required repairs will ever get done.

Keep clear of this town completely if you drive. I got fined for allegedly entering a bus lane: I certainly did not deliberately do so. I googled it and was astonished to find pages of similar complaints to the effect that Taunton has set many bus lane 'traps' (badly marked bus lanes you simply don't know you've entered). This seems to be a deliberate policy, the manager of the hotel I stayed at said there used to be bollards to stop people entering a poorly marked bus lane near his hotel, they took them away and put a camera there instead to extort money from visiting drivers. There are many similar stories of things arranged to so that visitors get fined for 'offences' they genuinely did not know they did. Just stay clear of this dump.
