I always wanted to walk on these islands. I had taken a few rides on boats that went around the islands but never landed. I was pleasantly surprise. There is an island with a castle where you can actually feel the history. It was beautiful and the view to the city was amazing. Highly recommended.

Its great island, and full of fun for whole family. Gorgeous views, we spent full day , and it was great.

My family took a ferry ride to Spectacle Island for a clam bake. The history of the islands was really fun to read about, the food was great and it was fun to walk the island. The ferry ride back was a great way to see the city at night from the water.

We spent the BEST day island hopping. The Ferry is easy to navigate and well managed; learned so much about the history of Boston Harbor Islands. I lived in Boston (Copley Square) for 2 years and never knew the Islands existed! A perfect outing for a picnic and hiking on a sunny summer day - Sunday afternoons offered free Jazz concerts! Truly a remarkable experience - Thanks, Evan!

Great islands and a nice ferry to take you around. It's not cheap, but fun on a nice day. Probably pick one or two per day.

It makes for a great summer afternoon. You learned about the Boston Harbor on the boat rides and then take in various views of the Harbor from each island.

The Boston Harbor islands are small but fun. You can do a day trip and visit a few in one day. Spectacle island is the most popular with a beach, hiking trails and just gorgeous views of the Boston skyline. Another island, George's I believe, has an old fort on it that's fun to explore.

There is no place our children remember with more delight than the Boston Harbor Islands, (try the .org site for planning), which are minutes away by Ferry from Long Wharf on the Boston waterfront. Just being outside on the upper deck of the ferryboat is enough of an adventure, as the wind and waves challenge you-and then you get to embark, on a real island, for a unique experience that can happen nowhere else. You can walk freely (a very easy walk for young children) on ramparts and into secret tunnels on Georges Island, into a re-imagination of history. If you want more of an expedition, we can highly recommend planning your ferry trip--at no additional cost!--to include Spectacle Island or even better, some of the wilder islands, for swimming, hiking, kayaking.

The Harbor Islands are drumlins - bumps that were carved by the great Laurentide glacier that originated in Canada in the late Wisconsin Period, about 75,000 years ago. It advanced into lower Massachusetts about 21,000 years ago, and began its recession 18,000 years ago. Its progression created Cape Cod (a "terminal moraine") and carved Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, the Massachusetts coastline, the Blue Hills and the Harbor Islands.Today the islands are places to hike, camp, play and study. I teach middle school science, and the highlight of every years is our field trips to these islands to study the natural history of the area as well as to conduct specific inquiries, such as tide pool biodiversity and productivity. The Boston Harbor Islands comprise a unique and engaging resource. They should be a part of every summer visitor's itinerary.

Honestly I didn't think until this point I would find a reason to return to the city of Boston. We decided to take a Boat ride in the Boston Harbor to Georges Island. It is an old Fort for the military and thank goodness we went. You can see where prisoners were kept, where soldiers once laid their heads to rest and even touch the old walls. I think it leaves you wanting more but it was still worth the visit.

Nice boat ride and a fun escape. Park staff is terrific - friendly, helpful. I wish the boats were cheaper and more frequent.

I've visited the Boston Harbor Islands at the last weekend of September. It was a very, very hot Sunday, so I was able to enjoy fully of the beach of Spectacle Islands. But first I visited George Island with the first ferry from Boston. Great morning, nice comments during the trip to George Island about the harbor of Boston. With the ranger tour on George Island you will get more insight in living on this Island during WWII. Both Islands were very clean (everything you take on the island has to be taken off the islands when you leave). It was a great day (and I even got sunburned at the end of September :p),

We've taken the ferry on nice summer days to Spectacle Island and to Georges Island. I suggest leaving early and doing one or the other, so you have enough time to enjoy the island - i.e. not trying to rush to both on the same day. Both have cafes with sandwiches, juices, etc. and there are often activities like live music, hula hooping, etc. On Spectacle Island, you can climb the hill to get a nice vantage point. On George's Island, the main attraction is military history and touring the huge and historic fort. Recommended.
