If you are crossing the Choptank River from Easton or going through Cambridge, MD. from Ocean City, MD. you cannot help but notice a high white sail-roof that covers Sailwinds Park/Visitors Center. Yes, it has bathrooms for visitors, but it is also the home of Dorchester County Tourism and holds a wealth of information for the visiting tourist. The staff is delightful and most helpful, and an elevator allows access to both levels of the Center.Outside you cannot help but notice the great children's park and the growing beach for all ages on the banks of the Choptank River. A delightful place to stop and relax, and even picnic.

Stopped in here today after a race in Easton. Such a cute Visitor Center with expansive views of the Choptank River. Plenty of brochures and the lady at the desk was very helpful. Downstairs has a cool movie on Dorchester County. Wish we could have hung at longer. Nicely done.

Much more than just a welcome center … a very good display of local history and art. Plenty of literature about the surrounding historic areas is displayed. Just a darn nice place to start a touring experience!

We have lived in the area for a year now and are within walking distance from the visitor's center! I also have friends and family who also stop often at the visitor's center as an excellent rest stop. They have a lot of pamphlets and information on all of the going on's in the area, a great little museum area and gift shop, and clean restrooms. The beach, park, and playground are right there, and both locals and visitors enjoy it!

Lots of info and local area stuff. The park next to the center is an amazing place to go with a cute little beach and swinging benches. Really romantic at sunset!!

If you are taking in the area of Cambrige and nearby surroundings, be sure to stop here first. Loads of free, helpful literaure and verbal suiggestions will make your trip more enjoyable.

Has a nice kiddie park, free brochures and tips about all the nearby attractions. Staff will even help you with maps to show you the best way to get where you're going. Good place to stop if you're going somewhere in the wilds nearby so you're not making a long drive to find the place you want to visit closed for the season. Some of the roads can be sketchy too, so best to tell them if you have a regular sedan. I wouldn't take them over some of the rickety "bridges" I saw in the wetlands.

At the foot of of the Choptank River bridge coming into town it is a good place to collect information for your visit. They can provide maps and brochures.

It is a really nice pit stop and information center. Great playgroundand sand. Lots of information inside center. Very pleasant.

We didn't actually go inside the visitor center but we really enjoyed the park. We stopped after a long drive to have a picnic and it was lovely. There are cute bench swings along the water and picnic tables. You can get right to the water to dip your feet in. There were several kids on the playground but it was still peaceful near the water because of the way the park is designed. If I lived nearby I would probably visit this park often. It's a nice place to relax.

As you drive east on Rt. 50 across the wide expanse of the Choptank River, you go from Talbot County to Dorchester County, a place that can be daunting to folks coming here for the first time since the maps all make it look like a huge marshland. That's why you need a good visitor center to help you get a handle on the many scenic and historical locales in this, the largest county in Maryland.You can't miss the visitor center as you see the huge sails flying over the building from the Rt. 50 bridge. The staff are all local, friendly folks who will talk to you all day if you have the time, talking about the county and the good things to experience here. So many people just keep right on going, intent on reaching the ocean resorts, but some time on the back roads away from Rt. 50 will repay the time spent in many ways.Start your visit here and really get to know Dorchester County! If you have children, turn them loose on the great playground next to the center buildings while you decide what to see next.

Just like the giant sail that looks over the complex, there is more than meets the eye. A fabulous playground that actually leads to the Choptank River's edge. Take off your shoes and put your toes in the sand. A beautifully landscaped mini-ecosystem attracts kids of all ages.Indoors, there is a comprehensive collection of local sites and businesses, but also beautiful art and historical displays. Clearly worth a stop in.

While we were staying just a couple of blocks away and on our way out for the day, we dropped in for a quick look around and to pick up a couple more brochures but stayed over half an hour. It is a great introduction to the area with all the displays and museum but also offers a good place to break a longer journey. Everywhere is clean and spacious and has good wheelchair access. The staff are very friendly and helpful, not to mention enthusiastic for the area. We got invited behind the reception counter to see the live web cam pictures of baby Bald Eagles and an Osprey nest at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge on their computer.

You see the dramatic sails over the center as you come west on US 50 over the bridge. It should be a visitor's first stop while in this area. Very helpful staff who provide excellent information, directions, maps, etc. Downstairs is a small museum about the area and a brief video. Lovely views of the bay and a number of walking trails with information plaques. This region does an excellent job with their signnage--signs are colorful and large making it easy to get around.
