Took the RV and kayaks. Very clean bathrooms. Nice spots and very clean park. We had a spot across from the bulkhead facing direct west. Wonderful sunsets. Was very easy to drive our boats to the dock. Beware of the chiggers and biting flies during the summer if you boat out to the bay or walk in the woods, aweful!!! We brought our own food, and it was at the end of August, so not crowded. Would love to stay again if the flies were not there.

Park is located on the Annemessex River with boating available. Great place to fish and crab. Best sunsets over the water.

This is a wonderful place to stay. A quiet waterfront community and the Sunsets are beautiful. You can rent kayak's at the campground store and paddle your way to a small quiet beach. Water is usually calm so no worries for the little one's. You will definately have to bring your bug spray and sunscreen. Not much for entertainment for being a quiet little waterman's town. So if your looking for a quiet, beautiful, peacefull place to stay, This is your place.

We had a campsite by the water,which made for a front row view of the sunsets on the water. The sunsets look unreal,and is full of hues of burnt orange,yellow,purple and dark blue. There is a place in town that we rented a tandem kayak to go to the beach. The beach was a bit chilly mid-May,but would be perfect in the summer. We left our camping trip with many mosquito kisses,but we were quite close to the water and canal. This campground wasn't packed mid-May so we were able to make reservations with no trouble. Our campsite wasn't as large as other campgrounds that we've been to in the past. The campsite was perfect for just two people though. This campground was a beautiful place to celebrate our anniversary!

A beautiful place to relax. We visit the place in October, so a lot of places are closed in the area and activities are limited. But if you look for pure nature, a calm place to relax this is certainly the place to be. Staff is incredibly helpful and friendly, the cabines are just gorgeous and the park simply beautiful. There is no phone or Internet reception- great to spend some quiet days with your beloved ones.

I have been going to Janes Island since I was a little girl. my family enjoys it there - over the last few years you see all the kayak's making their way through the water - Beach is nice, private - water is calm and actually pretty fun for a small child to bounce around in. Make sure to bring your bug spray and water shoes. This is a must for this island! Also, make sure to bring your sunscreen, water and snacks - there is no place to buy any. It is a great time if you are looking for a place to truly relax

Post Labor Day, we were able to drive in and secure a waterfront site. I'm sure that is probably not the case during their peak season. The park is well maintained, staff was friendly and helpful, and the kayak trails were (for the most part) well marked, and very peaceful. We had read about horse flies being an issue. They were there but we sprayed up with repellent and it wasn't a problem. They disappeared in the evening. Excellent quality firewood sold at the store.

We canoed at Janes Island as part of a ParkQuest activity. The staff in the store and at the dock were very friendly and helpful. We took out two tandem kayaks because we had 5 people and the traditional canoes were all out. The marsh is beautiful and peaceful. We saw many interesting animals, bird, and even a blue crab! I don't know if the scavenger hunt is available for people who are not doing ParkQuest, but the signs on the trail seemed permanent, which makes me think there could be a Junior Ranger program or something similar that uses them.The only negative I have is that the water trails are not marked clearly, and we ended up in a spot we had to turn the kayaks around and go back the way we came.This is a great park with camping spots, picnic areas, hiking trails, boating, fishing, and crabbing. I would love to go back and do more of the activities they offer!

My husband and I wanted to be close to the water for our August camping trip. Luckily we knew the weather was going to be unseasonably cool so we decided to go for this park. We were not disappointed. It was small and peaceful for our Thurs-Sun stay. It was well maintained and right on the waterway. We rented a canoe the first day and headed to the beach only reached by water. We had the beach to ourselves for an hour or so then only a few families came. We fished, swam, and had lunch then headed back the long way for a couple hours of paddling. It was so quiet and we didnt see anyone else until we got close to the marina. The whole stay we werent bothered by bugs except a few of those beach flies that can show up on any beach. The hosts were great as were the employees. It was a nice relaxing get away.

Great place for camping however, one peeve is the State Park allows RVs the use of electric generators. Running generators are a big nuisance being loud and destroying the camping experience and many people complained about one set up in the middle of the tent section. We were allowed to move from our original site to a more peaceful site and enjoyed our stay from there! Suggest the park reconsider the generator question or at least limit is to certain designated areas so that it doesn't ruin the camping experience for those around them. We'll definitely be back!

My husband and two boys just spent a great weekend at Janes Island Camping. We had a waterfront, electric site. Our boys spent hours catching crabs off of the pilings with their crab nets. We brought two kayaks and rented a third and had a nice time exploring and ended up at a nice beach where the boys could swim. There is no swimming directly at the campground, you have to kayak or canoe to the beach. There is a camp store with nice, friendly people and lots of different ice creams for the kids to choose from. There is also a Food Lion not far down the road in case you run out of anything. The biting flies are around, but we were sure to have insect repellant which helps tremendously. We spray our campsite twice a day with Repel outdoor fogger and we also run a fan to keep the bugs away so we can be outside. We did use some insect repellent before our kayak trip and that helped a lot. One of the days there we took a Ferry to Tangier Island for the afternoon which was a lot of fun! We had a great crab cake lunch and rented a golf cart to drive around and see the island. My kids hesitated going to Tangier Island, but were so happy they did afterwards. It was a great time!

Boring. no swimming. Bugs are huge and everywhere. Staff is not knowledgeable or friendly. Sites are primitive. Store barely furnished, no t shirts larger than L, nature center not open, events poorly run. We won't be going back

I brought my dogs camping in a travel trailer. We got an electric site, waterfront, facing the canal & Janes Island. There was no extra fee for my dogs.My husband got a 7-day saltwater fishing license online for $12.00, our 2nd day down there. They e*mailed it right to his phone.The biting flies were nasty. My insect repellent was barely cutting it.Fresh seafood is abundant, just a short driving distance of a few minutes. When I say fresh, I mean a fisher-lady sold me a half dozen crabs & they were all alive.We would absolutely go back there, I got amazing pictures of many exotic birds & gorgeous sunsets over the bay.

We rented a canoe and explored beautiful marshes. Wild life included tons of mussels, blue herons, cranes, fish, and crabs. There are some biting flies so bring your insect repellent. Canoeing trails are very well marked and the staff is quite friendly and helpful. We intend to come back to enjoy the backwoods camping on a small island in the Fall.

Spent the July 4th holiday tent camping at Janes Island. This was my wife and my first time there and our friends' second. We found the park to be very nice. The campsites are spacious and clean. Nice large tent pads, although the majority of them in area C are fine gravel and not sand. The firepits are very nice and have adjustable grates for cooking. The campsites and bathrooms were clean. I don't think I saw a piece of litter anywhere. You can crab right along the water, but no one seemed to be having much luck other than some small crabs. We brought kayaks and paddled out to one of the beaches. A breezy day can make paddling quite a chore, but we had a good time and the beach was nice. Due to the fairly strong breeze while we were there, the bugs weren't too bad, but on a calm day I could see the mosquitos being pretty bad. Horse flies were more of a bother for us. We definitely want to return for another visit and will probably target sometime in the early fall when there is less chance for hot and humid weather.
