Beautiful old home west of downtown. Good historical library and helpful staff. If your family is from here, visit this place!

You learn about the history of Cumberland here and the history of this house, but it is more for children.

I have been through the "History House" several times over the past 20 or so years, most recently in 2011. I made the mistake of calling it the History House when I called for hours and admission information. It is now called the Gordon-Roberts house, and the lady who answered the phone was insulted that I did not know that. We arrived about 10 minutes early for the next scheduled tour. No one was there except the tour guide and our group, which included several small children. The tour guide invited us to wait outside until the tour time-- a bit silly since no one else was there and there was no reason to make us wait. The guide did little to engage the children in the tour, and actually seemed a bit put off that they were present. That said, there was a good supply of interesting infromation about the family that lived there, the furniture, the clothing of the time and the architecture of the building. I would recommend the tour.
