We've been to Rocky Gap a handful of times, usually to camp, but also to picnic and go to the day-use beach. Like many of Maryland's state parks, there are multiple uses (trails, biking, primitive and electric/bath house camping, swimming in season, wildlife refuge, etc.), which is all very good. My only complaint is that Maryland is a highly regulated state...no alcohol (even for us responsible folks), no noise after 10pm, dogs must be on a short leash, etc. But if all of those things are ok by you, then this truly is a good park. Our encounters with the staff and rangers have all been good, and the price is only a couple of dollars above "reasonable", wink. It's also not as crowded as many of the parks east of Cumberland, which are often full to capacity on summer weekends.

well kept roads, plenty of hiking paths, beautiful lake with rentals available. The park was clean. Due to the time of year, access to the park was free

It's was great to just walk around the park, around the lake and enjoy the afternoon. Even though lake is man made it was a great way to enjoy nature.

My family and I decided to "walk-in" to this state park with our 30 feet travel trailer. Reservations are a must during peak season, but this was the last weekend of the camping season for Rocky Gap. They do not take reservations on the off season, so it is first come, first serve. There were a couple of electric sites open during our weekend. The only loop with electric is the Ash Loop. This is where we stayed. The sites are pretty private and very spacious for the most part. They have 8 more loops that are not electric, but the sites are just as nice. This is a pet campground. Some people with pets do not follow the leash guidelines, as we saw in many cases. This campground does have pet policies. We took our bikes, but I can tell you the campground is very hilly. Keep in mind the speed limit of automobiles is 15 MPH, but it is not followed. The trails around the campground are meant for hiking. They are too narrow for biking. They are quite nice, though. I do know the C&O Canal bike trail travels through Cumberland, so it is worth taking bikes if you choose to do this. They do have a campstore, but it was closed when we were there. The Nature Center was also closed, but from looking in the window kids will enjoy it. The aviary on the grounds is very cool- even for adults! I won't spoil the birds we saw, but they were beautiful and well-cared for. (Every person needs to dip the soles of their shoes in disinfectant water before entry into the aviary to lessen the chance of transmitting diseases & viruses. I am glad a state park is caring for injured birds that would have otherwise been put down. The campground also shares a large golf course and the Rocky Gap Casino. We didn't visit either, but they look beautiful and tempting:)The campground is right off of Interstate 68- and we did not hear any traffic! We traveled about an hour south of the campground and visited Antietam Battlefield- totally worth the trip. Lots of things to see and do while camping at Rocky Gap!

Rocky Gap State Park has it all.. from swimming, canoeing, camping and fishing on Lake Habeeb to golfing and a resort on the other side of the park, you can have whatever your outdoor heart desires right here. The park is clean, safe and family-friendly, and you can even bring Fido on a leash! The staff is amazingly friendly.. if you're looking for a wonderful place to take your family, this is the place for you.

Absolutely gorgeous lake . The park is very well maintained. Each loop ha its own camp host which makes you feel very safe. The restrooms were clean and very well maintained. Its a great place to visit with families or friends. The regular cabins dont have heating so make sure you carry some kind of heating arrangement with you.

We came to Rocky Gap with friends and we were so glad we did. This is a beautiful campground with all the basic amenities of a state park. A beautiful beach and great walking trails. We found a number of sites that would accommodate our 40' fifth wheel with no trouble at all. Easy access. The staff seemed very knowledgable and very helpful. The facilities were clean. We highly recommend this park when in the area.

Absolutely gorgeous park. There is a huge campground as well as several pavilions, picnicking and beach areas. Make sure to bring a kayak, canoe or rent one!
