We took my two teens to see the Maryland Symphony Orchestra on a Sunday afternoon for a 2 pm matinee. Parking is easy and free. We parked just down the street from the theater in an open air lot. The theater is set back in from the street so if you are looking for a big sign, you have to keep your eye out for it. The setting is right in the middle of charming downtown Hagerstown so if you want to go out for a drink or dinner/lunch before or after the show, it would be a nice combination. (We did not only because it was one of those 11 degree days in February!) I got a Groupon special which made our outing very affordable compared to the Kennedy Center where we sometimes go. Even though we sat in the balcony, the seats were fine and it is a small enough theater that you don't feel miles away up there. However, we could not see the floor below us and the sound quality is not top notch but not noticeable during a symphony. The lobby area was a bit crowded, too, but well run. I am going to keep my rating as Excellent because it's just so worth seeing a show in this delightful theater! The seats are newly refurbished and very comfortable. You can tell that the locals who introduced the concert are very proud of this theater and their productions, as they should be. Elizabeth Schulze is the conductor of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra and she is fabulous, really! I think that she could work anywhere due to her talent. The fact that she chooses this venue says a lot about this special place. It's an affordably priced gem!

The Maryland Theatre has classic architecture with friendly staff. I traveled to see a "kiddie" concert from out state; we had missed the concert in our city. I purchased my tickets online and the Will Call process went smoothly when we arrived. There's was ample and free parking behind the Theatre. I wished we had more time to explore the area. It was beautiful (Fall) and the evening life seemed quiet and laid-back. We enjoyed the venue very much!

Good sound from anywhere. Beautiful old theater that has been well maintained. Lighting has always been awesome too. You cannot go wrong attending anything here or stop by for a visit if they happen to be open. Worth the look!

Do not sit in the box seats if you want to hear anything. The speakers are all directed away from you and the sight lines to the whole stage are very bad. Sit in the front row of the regular seats or anyone taller that you will block you view in the regular seating. The slope is not steep enough to see above the person in front of you.

Beautiful Maryland Theatre with a very wide variety of shows. The prices are reasonable, compared to the city.

Our first visit to this historic (built in 1915) theatre was to see the Corvette's Doo Wop Revue - music from the 50's and early 60's. Great fun. Their box office displays a wide variety of shows to pick from- something for all tastes. Does not have on site parking but we had an easy 1 1/2 block walk to a parking lot. Several restaurants nearby as well to round out your evening..

This is a lovely theatre with very professional shows. We went to see several shows at this theatre. One was with children, and one was to see The Four Tenors, which I saw with a friend. We have not been recently, even though I have to click a date...but would recommend any show you are interested in...go..,.nice outing. There are restaurants very close, if you would choose to have dinner before, or drinks afterwards...all within walking distance to the theatre.

Designed by Thomas Lamb, the theater opened in 1915. There were 3 theaters almost within arms length so as theater and movie technology advanced The Maryland Theater was left behind. Closing in the late 1940's it remained dormant until a fire in 1974 damaged the front part. Private money completely returned the glorious theater and today it is a wonderful example of theater opulence of yesterday. Seating 1300 patrons, with a restored Wurlitzer organ, it is the current home of The Maryland Symphony. Bob Hope performed at the theater in 1982. The theater was featured in the movie "Guarding Tess" and remains today a wonderful destination for local and nationally know performers.

The Maryland Theater hosts wind down Fridays with live music in the courtyard, weather permitting. If it rains, it is moved inside. The bar is open and usually light food is available. The music is usually provided by local bands and through the season different styles of music are performed.

This theater has been lovingly restored to its original majesty. Built in the 1920's it is a true treasure and is used for plays, concerts and a variety of events including the Miss Maryland Beauty Pageant each year. It is the pride of Hagerstown.

Well maintained historic theater with comfortable seating. Philharmonic shows, especially the holiday show are good. Regular musical acts are less inspiring Gaelic Storm used to play but that stopped a couple of years back.

I've been to many events at this facility and I've never been disappointed. I love the historical throw backs that this theater offers. The only suggestion I would have would be to improve the selection of the concession stand but that's a minor thing. I love this beautiful theatre.

We enjoy concerts by the Maryland Symphony at the Theatre. The quality of the orchestra and the selection of music is very good.

The Maryland Theatre is the focal point of Hagerstown's Arts & Entertainment district. It's the home of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra and also hosts a wide variety of musical programs, comedy and other shows (web site gives details). The building is a treat in itself, a magnificent example of historic theatres with gold leaf decor, boxes and a fine balcony -- all good seats and fine accoustics. Parking is easy nearby and some good restaurants are right across or down the street.
