This is great for all dairy and meat products. I've never had anything I didn't like. I've had their ice cream, garlic butter, bacon, cheese and more!

Every product South Mountain Creamery carries is superb, once you have the milk store bought will never be the same.

I love having fresh milk delivered in the morning before I wake up. We also love their lemonade and beef jerky. I would love to try their ice cream also. I heard it is the best.

All over downtown Frederick, I see my neighbors with boxes outside their homes with "south mountain creamery" written on them. I understand why. Their dairy products are very fresh. My mom scarfed down her vanilla ice cream and bought some cheese. We couldn't stay around though because the heavy manure smell and the flies. I can see this as a worthwhile stop for families with kids but since I don't have any children, I don't think I need to go back. If you feel like venturing off of 70 and taking a nice scenic ride, go ahead and stop by.

The ice cream is the best I've ever eaten. The portions are generous. I had chocolate, my son had mint chocolate chip. Both were amazing. It's a working farm and everything is accessible and viewable. The staff are very friendly and helpful when asked questions. I fell in love with one of the barn cats who decided my lap was the place to be.My son was fascinated with the milking and spent the visit licking his ice cream cone while staring wide-eyed at the cows being milked. The only downside - it smells like a farm. That's expected - I know....but there were an inordinate number of flies around, which is a bit unappetizing while trying to enjoy the world's best ice cream. Perhaps some indoor seating? Or fans around picnic tables?

Ok so I'm torn about this place. My favorite ice cream flavor by far - red, white and blue (vanilla with real blueberry raspberry swirls). Amazing. The best I've had all season. Now the bad news. It is a working farm and that makes it great but the cows are so close to where you eat that the infestation of flies is almost overwhelming. Actually my toddler was even grossed out. It was disgusting to be sitting there and the table turned black. Yes I'm exaggerating, but you get the point. I think they have the room to fix that situation next summer because it ruins an otherwise wonderful experience on the farm. We watched the milking, fed the calves at 4th, played on the playground then had ice cream. It was great until the end. The flies ruined it for me. If you like that then give it a 5. That is why it is a 4 for me. I almost gave it a 3.

Beautiful scenery, great ice cream. Loved the stable where you can pet the calves. We weren't there during the calf feedings but I bet it's crowded.

The ice cream (and we had a number of different flavors!) was delicious, the cones were uber fresh, and we loved seeing and then actually bottle feeding the calves (4:00 daily, come early to get a spot by a calf and wait for the milk bottles to be brought out). Btw, there is also a gravel mound with all manner of cool dump trucks and other construction "toys" that also looks like fun, although it was a hot day and we chose not to partake...

Spent an afternoon visiting. We went at 4pm (daily) to feed the baby cows. The ice cream was delicious and there is a huge playground!

This is one of our favorite things to do!!! We take all our visitors. We have even taken a wheelchair, drove right up to the barn and were able to get him out of the car.

We stopped by the creamery as part of the Maryland Ice Cream trail 2014. Parking was plenty, but not very clear at first pass because the whole place looks (and is) like a farm so we weren't sure where to go. We ended up passing it and circling back. The have ice cream at the country store and at the ice cream truck. Very many favors to choose from. I would recommend the "Dirt Road"... Has chocolate and marshmallows. Across from the country store is the calf feeding area, which you can walk through and visit the calves, ducks, and chickens. Hand sanitizer was stationed at the exits. There is also a children's play area.

We have been going to SMC since it opened 14 years ago. It's a working dairy farm, so be prepared for wandering roosters and farm cats and the occasional sheep dog, and of course, if you aren't from the country, the fragrance can take some getting used to (lots of cows, you see). The dairy shop has fresh ice cream made on the premises as well as most of the other products SMC offers through its delivery service (in MD and DC and environs). My first experience was at the Burkittsville Ruritan Carnival in 2000 - when all they had was vanilla ice cream - so rich and buttery, unlike any I'd ever had. We are delivery customers - hormone-free, free-range, all natural, organic, etc., and all very tasty, and the kids love the farm weekends as well as the occasional visit. There's a playground, the calf barn (you can pet the calves, and they really like it), and the dairy itself. All very well worth it. Calf feeding (4:00 p.m. each day) is another highlight.

The ice cream is great! The eggs are the freshest. The skim milk seems to be almost 2% instead! Friendly folks behind the counter too. The semi-annual festivals are lots of fun.

We went on a Saturday and it was so enjoyable. We were there about 2 hours which is more than enough time to enjoy the grounds. My advice is to be there around 3:30 to pick a calf that you'd like to feed. People literally came out of nowhere around 3:45 for the 4:00 calf feeding so we saw a lot of sad kids because all the calves were already "reserved" by other kids. This was a great way to introduce our kiddos to a humane farm experience. Their ice cream is delicious and very fresh.

Great place for a visit with the family. You can feed the cows at 4p daily for free. Get there before that to make sure you get a cow. Fresh ice cream and lots of dairy products for purchase. Friendly staff. Won't take too long to visit- about an hour.
