Wife & I spent the weekend in St Michaels last fall. Though we had to leave for home on Sunday, it was such a nice day outside that we decided to find a place for a few hours of kayaking. The hotel staff highly recommended Tilghman Island Marina which was only a short drive from SM. So we loaded up the car with luggage and off to Tilghman Island we went. What a pleasant drive through very scenic countryside, saw numerous deer and lots of geese in farm fields along the way. Eventually came to a draw bridge which brought us onto Tilghman Island. The bridge is soooo cooool, took us over top a narrow waterway and we could actually see the Chesapeake Bay. Not far away was our destination. Captain Ron & his wife Nancy took care of us like we were family. Not only did they provide all of our kayaking needs, they even gave us drinks and a few snacks for our journey and said to take our time as they didn't care how long we took even though we paid for just 2 hours. We explored a creek that was abundant with migratory ducks & geese and also the shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay. We even had enough energy to check out the drawbridge, paddling underneath it which was awesome. Once back at the marina we both took showers and changed cloths in the marina's bathhouse. Though the bathrooms are somewhat rustic, they were impeccably clean. What a nice marina! We will be back next season, perhaps we'll rent a boat or standup paddleboard. Thanks again Captain Ron & Nancy for making our day so nice.

Took a drive here. Absolutely beautiful. Very cold & windy day, to my surprise we saw deer on our way. Drove all around, very quaint.

There is nothing at the end of the road on Tilghman Island except a fabulous view. Drive out for a peaceful panorama of water and trees.

Harrison's seafood restaurant has great food and a fabulous setting on the water. Perfect for big groups, it is a large place.

Visited with friends who keep their boat in the Marina. The island is a step back to the fishing heritage that started with. There is still a working fishing fleet, a couple of nice marinas, a few fun restaurants and The Book Bank ... An amazing book store, owned by a delightful couple who have created a book lovers refuge in a tiny old bank building. As we left the Marina we saw a pair of Bald Eagles looking out over the Bay for their next meal. All in all a wonderful spot in an area that is beautiful but sometimes over run with visitors.

If you're looking for a place to enjoy the world in its purest form, Tilghman Island is the place for you. Soaring views of the bay and Choptank river, along with tons of walking trails/areas and some preserve areas, make this place an untouched gem. If you're looking for shops or great places to eat, you should head back to St. Michael's. If you're looking for a place where you can enjoy serenity and beauty, Tilghman Island is your destination. We enjoyed staying here for several days and were blown away by sunrises over the Choptank and sunsets over the bay. The beauty is unmatched in any location I've visited before.

I liked that it was quaint, isolated,with nature all around. There wasn't anything I disliked. We rode all the way to the point on a dirt road where the Black Walnut Inn sits completely isolated and overlooking the Chesapeake.

Tilghman Island is a special place, but it isn't for everyone. Those looking for quaint shops, a main street to walk down, and lot of restaurants will be disappointed and may want to stay in Saint Michael's. There are no gingerbread houses, no bistros, and no place to buy souvenirs. I think a lot of the negative reviews are from those who expected a variation of these things. And I can understand how they might be disappointed if that's what they were anticipating. I say this as one of those people who drove through the first time and said, "This is it?"On our second visit, we saw why people loved it. Tilghman's doesn't try to be anything other than what it is - a community of about 750 folks making their living largely off the water. If you want to see the real Eastern Shore, this is the place to be. It's like stepping back in time.There are definitely places on the Island that look a little rough around the edges if you're comparing them to St. Mike's or Oxford. But, honestly, that's what makes Tilghman's different and worth visiting. It's real and, at least for now, is not designed for tourists. The people are welcoming, the scenery is beautiful, and the Island's reliance on the water... the workboats, the sense of community... are what make it worthwhile. And, of course, the water! Those that get out in on the water - either by sail charter, fishing or crabbing charter, boat rentals, kayaks, etc. - will not be disappointed. It truly is a unique place.

Arguably, this is St. Michael's non-flaunty neighbor. It is a sleepy town at lands end. We came in the evening so most of the few businesses here were already closed. Still, it is worth a look for its prime coastal views of the Chesapeake bayfront.

Quoting another reviewer there--but once I saw their title I could think of no other/more informative way to put it. A few very nice B&B's, one motel, a dilapidated Inn for fishermen, and surprisingly few dining options. "Rustic", would be a good word for it. That said, there's a wonderful little market/deli place on the main road from which to pick up a good bottle of wine (the proprietess knows her wine) and go watch a sunset.

We drove to the end of the inlet. However, there's not much to see once you get to Tilghman Island. We just turned around and drove back. However, if you enjoy sitting and watching the water, then you might enjoy.

Drove through, stopped for lunch. Looked for something to keep us there longer - couldn't find anything. Returned to St Michaels.

Not much to do..but very pretty, relaxing, quaint...we went in Oct so think the summers would be nice...would to cycle here..big wide dedicated bike lane

Not much to see. Nothing to do. Went all the way to the tip of the island through a chain link fence. Sat on some rocks and watched the boats and sailboats. Was well worth the hour spent taking in the sea breeze and soaking in the sun.

We took a quick trip out to Tilghman and just walked around the rocks at the very end of the main road.
