I have been here before and was disappointed this year by the park. I remember there being far more animals that what was available this time.We weren't expecting to do the whole crater walk, it was a bit much in the heat. The park used to be worth it but not this visit.

My visit to Crater Lake Santuary June 2014, was one of my favorite trips to Africa. In the past I've been to the Big Parks and seen the Big Five. This trip was off the beaten path a little more laid back. I do photography and don't think you can't get a great photo or enjoy a walk among nature here! This whole area in Lake Navasha offers wonderful experiences such as Hell's Gate, and Crescent Island, along with Crater Lake Santuary! I met a wonderful guide named John while staying at Crayfish Camp, who took me to Crater Lake Santuary. He does all sorts of tours in the area, at a reasonable price I might add. He was very knowledgeable, about the animals and plants, got you up close to wildlife, was reliable and very polite. I would suggest visiting this area and spending a few days as there is plenty to do here. You can't go wrong with such a nice dependable individual such as John. When we visited it was very dry so most of the animals couldnt be seen however we were able to spot giraffes, monkeys, buffalos, and zebras,gazelles so many animals despite the harsh conditions

We enjoyed the warm welcome to the place and the sanctuary is awesome with a view of sun set, wild animals, scenery and a lot of birds around.

The floating restaurant in the middle of the lake on the crater makes the dinning experience unique and intersting. The lawns and the gardens around the resort are well maintained. The campind site within the property makes it convenient for Karoga (cook out) or a private (nosiy) party.

Huge area (10000 acres I think) full of game you can walk amongst (giraffe - lots, buffalo, zebra, baboon, velvet monkey, gazelle, antelope, dik dik, lizards, birds etc).The lake we only looked at from a viewpoint (great view) - not green anymore due to recent years rainfall. No flamingos anymore as a result. Water is too high for you to walk around beside the lake itself and the danger of a new resident Hippo somewhere around the edge.

I got married and my husband almost had to leave me at Crater Lake! Loved loved every single thing about my stay here. From the management, staff, scenery, furnishings, views, animals...can I stop now! Fabulous and worth every single penny!

The Sanctuary is home to a wide variety of animals, including cape buffalo, eland, impala, giraffe, wart hogs and many others. While most people do a driving safari through the sanctuary, you are able to hike. This, of course, is at your own risk. Our favorite activity is to include a picnic. We scope out an open area, where we can picnic with animals surrounding us. You can also opt for a lunch at the lodge, which is reached by climbing down a series of flights of stairs. The food is good, but you must call ahead of time for reservations....and of course, those stairs seem a lot longer on thecway back up!

My sons, a friend and i visited Crater lake game sanctuary during the Easter holidays this year and it was good. we paid a little fee at the reception and took off to view animals.We were privileged to see wild animals such as zebras,giraffes,the shy warthog and gazelles .We enjoyed the game drive,however the structures at the restaurant require renovations.

Monkeys, giraffes, zebras, baboons,gazelles and so many other animals to see up close. It was great to see so many colombard monkeys in all their black and white glory in such a safe environment.

This park is worthwhile. As you can either take your won car, walk or go with a guide, you can explore the pak at your leisure. Rare birds are to be found in the park and at night even big animals like Hippo's. The park has its resident Giraffes, Buffalo, Zebra's. The guides are extremely well educated and speak perfect English. Entrance fee is very reasonable. I commend the owners for putting nature and preservation before commercial gain. The Kenyan owner is an example for many entrepreneurs who see Kenyans treasures as a source of income and not as a national heritage.

We were led by a knowledgable guide around Crater Lake and through the reserve. There are no major threats, so you can walk it which is great fun. The animals are diverse and encountered often throughout the walk. We saw masai giraffes, olive baboons, zebra, and colobus monkeys... just to name a few. The bird life was also fantastic to see (a trend in Kenya is the constant amazement by the biodiversity of birds!)

While the restaurant on the lake seems to have seen better days, the three-hour hike around the crater was a fantastic experience. Apart from a few steep hills right after the start, the rest of the track is fairly easy to walk. We brought along our two three-year olds and they had no problems completing this hike. The track is well marked and there are many nice panorama spots along the way. Don't forget your hat if the sun is out!

I recently hosted a strategic planning meeting with our African partners at a hotel in Naivasha. One evening we wanted to do something for fun. The folks at the Fish Eagle Inn, where we were staying, recommended that we see the Crater Lake Game Sanctuary and also recommended a guide - John Ndirangu of Rift Travels. It was fantastic! Within a short half hour drive we had arrived at the sanctuary at dusk. We wandered through the sanctuary, walking near giraffes, buffalo, zebra, etc. It was totally amazing!And John, our guide, was fabulous. He walked us through the park, giving us information about the various species, ensuring that we did not walk too close to the animals who are dangerous (buffalo) and explaining the history of the area as well as answering questions about anything and everything. He is very well informed, very well organized and has a background in animal biology from university. He also runs tours throughout other parts of Africa. The crater lake offered me the best view of my life. Waking up to flamingoes almost at your doorstep was almost heavenly. However, the rooms..especially the tent we slept in wasnt nice. It was very cold and the bathroom could not drain the water. There was nothing special about the food..and the staff are not very friendly. But alteast the view makes up for the shortcomings. The hotel needs a parmanent porter, its a whole walk from the reception to the tents..and the terrain is not friendly.
